Deerhunter - Monomania

While I can always respect a band trying new things, sometimes it doesn't alway work out. This is the case here. I definitely think they needed something new after their last 2 albums were so damn good...but clearly, they had no idea where to go from there. Their music always teetered on the edge of well thought out emotional melody and pure lethargy, so without that melodic side the result just sounds like they don't care. There are moments here and there and I'll give it a couple more spins to see if my opinion changes, but it's really not doing it for me.

Leather Jacket II is effin' rad. And the rest is pretty forgettable. Shame. Halcyon Digest is one of my favourite albums.

Same here. Again, I'm glad they want to move on from that sound but something tells me they should just stick with it or pack it in.

I was really looking forward to it but after 3 spins I'm not really digging it either, save for a few tracks. "Blue Agent" is probably my favorite, with a couple of others being pretty good but overall, meh. I too hope it grows on me a bit more. For now I gave it 3/5.

I'd love to see your signature/links too, but the huge and obnoxious ones have caused me to block all signatures.

The new Limp Biskit album was a pretty big disappointment.

I'm glad I'm not alone in this. I really like Deerhunter...and with an album like Halcyon Digest before this it's hard not to be really disappointed. I'd say 3/5 sounds about right for me, too.

This raises interesting philosophical questions.

I don't tend to expect genius twice from anybody. If they ever do it twice for me, they're pretty much a legendary artist.

Very true. I was disappointed but not surprised. I could almost tell from the album art that it wasn't going to be the same.
