Sheesh! What did that monster ever do to you?
Okay, deep breath, you're all going to go WTF???? and hate me but I just listened to the new one from Boards of Canada, first time to hear them, and man did I hate it! Just not my thing at all; the samples, the little crazy noises, the voices: how you all seem to love and revere this band is beyond me, but, each to his own. It was without question not something I liked. I couldn't even get through the whole album first time, and I doubt there'll be a second.

My PM inbox is already full so don't bother sending me any hate-messages or death threats. Wait till I clear it out first...

He made a boring damn album.

And their new one was definitely not the place to start with BoC. Give The Campfire Headphase a listen and if you like that move on to Music Has the Right to Children and Geogaddi. In that order. THEN listen to their new one.

Really? I think The Campfire Headphase is a tad boring and definitely overlong. I think the first two are more approachable for the beginner.

I just finished listening to the new one too, probably for the 8th time. I like it enough but I don't think it's nearly as engaging as Music Has the Right to Children or Geogaddi.

I'd love to see your signature/links too, but the huge and obnoxious ones have caused me to block all signatures.

While I agree Music Has the Right to Children is the better album, I think The Campfire Headphase is a nice introduction to their sound. It's more organic so someone not so used to electronic music (especially electronic music as original as theirs) might find it easier to get into.

And I agree with you about their new one, but I respect that they still managed to explore new ground. It's one of m favorite releases this year for sure.

I loved their last three records, but I can never seem to jump on the bandwagon for this album, and believe me I've tried many times. I still consider myself a National fan though. Their last three records are strokes of genius.

Savages - Silence Yourself (2013)

This is a weird one because I only dislike one thing about the album, but it's so big that it makes it really hard to enjoy everything else. I can't stand the vocals, it sounds like a really bad Geddy Lee, and I actually don't mind his vocal style, but I just don't like it here. I've always found bass heavy post-punk works better with deeper voices and the juxtaposition between the melody and vocals is so jarring that I just can't get into the music.

If you're starved for new post-punk that really does sound like it stepped out of a time capsule from 1979 then this album will provide the melodies, but I can't guarantee you won't run into the same problem as me with the vocals.

I actually kind of like the vocals, she reminds me of Siouxise Sioux. It's in my top ten albums of the year so far but it loses marks for lack of originality despite being very enjoyable and very well executed.
