Fine.

Starting over.

I must say, I'm not too intrigued by these underwelming compositions but I have no qualms if you have a dissenting point of view, have a good day old chap.

Better?

A lot of people do unfortunately.

Anyway.

Proof that it doesn't matter how mind blowingly untalented you are (and this guy had NONE), grab an accoustic guitar, sing juvenile "symbolic" hippie lyrics like a sedated retard and you're sure to get a following with the indie folk fag crowd. Does shunning talent ever get tiresome for these people? Apparently not.

An absolute disaster of a record. This guy can't do anything even half competently, cannot play the guitar, cannot construct anything remotely similar to a melody, and he has a voice like a dying moose. Seriously, Woodie Gutrhie put more effort into his work even during his whole "hey I'm gonna start intentionally writing songs as if they were made by a f*cking one year old" period.

Worst musician of all time.

And before Ethan returns to the forum only to respond with some hideously pathetic attempt at a troll by ranting on about some album he can't even spell the name of properly let alone actually took the time to listen to (which isn't possible because any hint of electric guitar or actual excitement makes him physically ill), yes, I have listened to this album, it really is that damn bad.
Whats wrong with his guitar playing? I wouldn't put it past a Proghead to miss the point and ethos of folk music.

I think if you're going to throw stones at lyrical subject matter, you ought not to stand in the thin glass house across the street.

The trouble with the maples,
(And they're quite convinced they're right)
They say the oaks are just too lofty
And they grab up all the light.

Unless you're being told this by a goblin or some form of wood nymph, its neither poignant nor deep.

I think the point is that the stronger the language you use to show you're disdain for an album the more obligated you are to substantiate what you're asserting.

If I say, "well, Pink Moon just isn't my cup of tea" the natural reaction is, "well, to each his oen", or, "different strokes for different strokes", but if your going to make bold assertions about guitar playing ability and song writing capabilities that could easily be shot to hell ny any one of us who are familiar with the artist and the respective album...substantiate what your asserting, especially if what you're asserting happens to be particularly abrasive. I won't even comment about trash talking about certain non-active members that are no longer here to defend their opinions.

To be honest the lyrics comment was something thrown in there because I expected a lot of "what about the lyrics?" comments, honestly I haven't really paid attention to the lyrics because it's too hard to get past the super awfulness of the music.

Rush actually make good music, so they can sing about whatever the hell they want. Not even prog fans really care too much about the lyrics so that's a terrible thing to go on a rant about.

I don't consider lyrics to be very imporant to music, they can make for a more engaging musical experience but it's not necessary, the music is what matters, which means that if music can stand on it's own without very good lyrics, it's still good music. Good lyrics can't save bad music composition.

Drake is just boring to me, why should I invest any interest in his lyrics or what they are about? Is that really gonna change my opinion of the music being horribly executed? No.

No doubt Superchunk rocks.

'Slack Mother****er' might just be the true anthem of the 90s...

Pink Moon may not be your thing, but give these tracks from Bryter Layter a listen. It's a completely different album.
His guitar playing is ****ing awesome in the first one.

Deerhunter - Microcastle

I'm not prepared to throw this away at first, but there was just something about this album that I didn't find appealing. Some of the songs were great, but it had this weird habit of shifting over to these softer ones that made it hard to get my rock on. I think I'll give it another shot today, but I'm not feeling too good about what the results will be.

Also, I hold no biases against folk whatsoever. I quite dig folk rock like Neil Young, The Birds, Jefferson Airplane and CSN. Bob Dylan while overrated has some genius songs as well.

Woodie Guthrie and Peter Singer are American icons who have my respect even though I don't really listen to them.

I have to admit though that I'm more into english folk. Bert Jansch and Roy Harper are terrific. And a lot of english folk rock/prog folk like Comus, Jethro Tull, The Strawbs and Fairport Convention.

I do hate most indie folk with a burning passion though.

Hey, this isn't half bad. I still don't like his vocals, but at least this shows actual effort.

I guess I should let it be known that I have ONLY heard Pink Moon, and yeah calling him a terrible guitarist for that work alone is pretty silly of me and I admit that I'm just very spiteful because people constantly tell me this is the best album ever made, I really do think it's a terrible record, but I admit I shouldn't completely write off the rest of his work, I only assumed it was all trash because it's his most acclaimed work.

But I should know better than to trust the opinions of indie fans. And now that I know this guy actually IS capable of making music that just makes me more angry over the abortion that is Pink Moon, did he swallow whole bottles of barbiturates or something?
