Considering those very same things I think that it doesn't. I mean Todd McFarlane especially is one of the most overrated illustrators of the past 20s years or so.

Yes, but he didn't animate the series by himself, a studio did that. Regardless, I love the animation style of this video. Perhaps you would find the animation in Dead Leaves or FLCL to be more your thing.

Yes, that's usually the case with animation. But he was one of the main creative forces behind the Pearl Jam video, which was not coincidentally done in a style much like his.

When you say "Dead Leaves" are you talking about the White Stripes song? From what I remember that video didn't have any animation in it.

Dead leaves is a crazy as **** animated film, FLCL is Fooly Cooly, a crazy as **** animated series.

Both of them have somewhat warped and insane animation styles to go along with their similarly insane plots.

I suggest you watch Dead Leaves over FLCL, since its better, shorter, arguably funnier, and gives you a total adrenaline rush from start to finish. Also, watch it in english dub, since the subtitles on at least my own DVD copy are absolutely terrible. (Though good for a laugh)

I just looked a couple quick clips of both on YouTube. They look like they could be interesting, I'll try and check them out at some point. I will say though, that the animation style of both isn't really that far removed from the style of something like the "Do the Evolution" video. It's the content of both that seems wacky, not really the animation.

The trailers don't do them justice, I will say. I'm not a FLCL fan, but certainly in dead leaves case, the trailer doesnt do the actual animation a bit of justice. THe content is the better part of both though, I agree.

just curious now, what style would you have preferred? i can see why you'd call MacFarlane overrated, but i wasn't an art student so i'm not really familiar with the alternatives.
