I know I'm a fanboy and thus I like a lot of their work no casual listener would be caught dead listening to, but you're telling me you don't want to vote for them because they didn't have enough great material, but you want JEFF BUCKLEY to get in?

He made ONE finished album for gods sake, and I don't see what was do damn innovative about it, compared to say an album like Close to the Edge in 1972.

But like Elliott Smith I guess being dead gives you a free pass. Defining a new form of music obviously ain't that important, but lets just go ahead and induct every run of the mill folkie/crooner that people only care about because they're dead.
...

The "unfinished" album is two discs and ninety-one minutes long. And for having such a small discography, his impact upon rock music is unprecedented. If Joy Division deserved to get in with their two extremely overrated albums, Jeff Buckley sure as **** does.

And Yes expressed a huge divergence from progressive rock. I think you explained it best: that their early and later albums sucked. Why? Because they elected to start manufacturing trepid pop music and marketed it to sell to the masses. Their clumsy relationships with each other resulted in poorly produced albums for the last two decades.

When then lets say **** you to Black Sabbath for all the **** they did with Dio then.

And I never said anything about their early albums, Yes was an average but decent enough debut, and Time and a Word is actually pretty damn good.

And not all their later albums are bad either. Their last two albums were good, they mark a return to their prog roots and the traditional lineup. Hell Magnification was pretty much the best thing they've done since Going for the One. They only have 5 truly mediocre/bad albums IMO, hardly any more than Pink Floyd, and hell, Genesis, Jethro Tull, ELP and Moody Blues have all put out more sh*t than Yes ever did, the amount of crap Yes have put out is actually relatively small for a 70s prog band.

They were only pop briefly, it started with Drama, which was a very good album, then even furthur with 90125, which was still good. They only have a few albums I'd call horrible, Big Generator, Union and Open Your Eyes, that was their bad pop/arena rock phase. Tormato and Talk are pretty mediocre but had a few redeeming qualities.

They still have more good albums than bad ones.

A moment ago you said you only heard a few albums from them and just downloaded the albums I put up, yet you already rated most of their albums? You couldn't have possibly got that many more albums and formed an opinion of them that fast.

I hope this is some kind of joke, because anyone who thinks CTTE is one of their worst albums and Open Your Eyes is one of their best is clearly out of whack.

It's impossible to get a feel for a single album in one days time let alone nearly an entire discography spanning three decades. This band like a lot of progressive and really almost all bands are mostly an acquired taste.

If you're posting in the music forums make sure to be thoughtful and expressive, if you're posting in the lounge ask yourself "is this something that adds to the conversation?" It's important to remember that a lot of people use each thread. You're probably not as funny or clever as you think, I know I'm not.

Then don't tell me those albums are bad if you haven't even listened to them. Hows that for logic?

It seems that you just youtubed close to the edge, heard the weird little guitar intro at the beginning, skipped through everything else and decided that was enough to call the whole damn album bad. What a musicgoer you are.

It's not the kinda music you can just freaking sample little tid bits of and already have a solid opinion about it in no time flat, it's music thats meant to be observed and paid attention too, until then I don't consider your opinion to be an informed one. Writing off a whole discography that spans 5 decades by sampling is just insulting. I don't think your vote should even count.

This is in part why I was originally in favor of a minimum post number for the final vote.

Do we have a strict set of rules for the final vote yet?
