Zappa is in though he just misses being the most popular nomination yet.

Next up from Alfred..

The Clash

The Clash have been one of the most influential and inspiring bands in the history of punk rock, if not rock period. For a punk rock band, The Clash's music was complex. They were dubbed the "Thinking Man's Yobs" because of their political views that expanded beyond anarchy, unlike many of their peers. Along with punk rock, the Clash mixed a wide variety of genres into their sound, making them extremely diverse. This became more noticeable as their career went on. There's something in their sound for everyone.

You may hate U2, but I think The Edge put it best when he said "The Clash were the shit".

there doesn't even need to be a vote to my mind. Just throw 'em in and let's move on to the next band.

Of course yes, they were my first punk band. My first real album was 'The Clash'. Still like it today.

I've liked The Clash for a long time, but it was only in the past five months that I've really explored their music.

I went to the pictures last year to watch The Future is Unwritten, and to be honest Strummer did come across as a bit of a......errrrr......two hat, but are not all the good ones like that?

It is easily said, but London Calling is an immense album, with Sandinista for me confirming that this band were not your average punk band and actually were quite interesting and crossed quite a few genres in their time.....being quite adventurous with their music, something which I think they dont get enough credit for.

It also needs to be said that Mick Jones produced the greatest British album of the last ten years with The Libertines' Up The Bracket, which in my view gave the British scene a good kick up the rear.

So all things considered, its a yes
