What's the general consensus on Mike Patton here?

His vocals make Irony Is A Dead Scene. I enjoy Faith No More as well, and Mr. Bungle's "California" is a pretty cool album, even though I only listened the whole way thru once. Tomahawk is all right.

He's definitely one of the best vocalists out there.

That seems a bit extreme. I highly doubt anyone would think that making their music dull and boring is a good way to make people pay attention to anything.

i think a lot of the disdain towards this project is due to the ridiculous potential the collaborations it contained presented and ultimately failed at providing. it's not like he was incapable of doing something interesting as proven on the two tracks i noted earlier but for whatever reason everything in the middle feels forced, half baked, unfinished, and just slapped together for no other reason than being able to have a who's who of collaborator's on the track listing instead of having a collection of great tracks from a small handful of like minded people. it starts with a bang and ends with one too, but accomplishes absolutely nothing between those points, and that to me is why PT is such a huge letdown as an album.

Agreed. His vocals do take prominence on a lot of material but if there is nothing to back it up musically , then it doesn't matter how original the vocal style is.

As a singer- he's not the best but as a vocalist? He's original and is always searching for new techniques to use his voice as an actual instrument and although he is an acquired taste at times, I always admire someone trying something new and pushing boundaries.

Well, hype or no, I still like it basically from beginning to end. Though I did lol at your imagery of Patton and Tobin taking a dual dump in your ear.

hahaha i was imagining a back to back dual purge into a single ear. were you on the same page or thinking one on each side? haha

plus if we all liked the same things it would make for a pretty boring world.

I pictured one ear with them squatting at roughly a 90 degree angle to each other, each looking in the other's direction and grinning.

I'd say "Mojo" is probably my favorite track on the album. But I also rate "We're Not Alone", "Celebrity Death Match" and "Sucker" really highly as well.
