"Give me hope Joanna" would fit this category well.
I always thought a humorist twist in music was an interesting and intelligent way of getting a point across. "South park" has done this over the years in the music for the show. |

A rap artist, McKinley "Mac" Phipps, Jr., wrongfully imprisoned for 16 years after being convicted of murder despite a lack of forensic evidence, another man's confession, and witnesses admitting they were bullied by the prosecution into implicating him, has released his first rap song since his incarceration.
The new song by Mac is connected with a documentary to be released later this year to inform the public of Mac's wrongful conviction. Mac's case is an especially interesting one for musicians. One reason the jury convicted Mac is that the prosecution played violent portions of his rap song lyrics in court. No one should be convicted based on music. About two months ago, I created a playlist that revolves slightly around activist type songs.
The name of my playlist is Negus. idk why but I was really slow and only got around to listening to TPAB this year. I went to this event locally and bought a shirt with the word "Negus" on it. I had no idea what the hell it meant. So I got online and did some research which lead to me listening to Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp a Butterfly. For those that don't know, near the end of his song "i" he decides to explain Negus to the masses at a concert. - Straight from Wikipedia. Kendrick Lamar - i I follow that track up with The Dream's Black. He released this song as a response to Donald Sterling but it just covers the climate at this moment in time. He also basically touches on the fact that Classicism is the new Racism. I only half agree with that. I feel like they both go hand in hand. I love the fact that he mentions the song "What's going on by Marvin Gaye". I ended up looking up that song to add to my Negus playlist. I have more songs from the playlist but will only do like two at a time and explain why they are on the list. The Dream - Black
