Isn't that also called classicism? Classical can refer to that period, but is also often used as a broader term to refer to music before the 20th century all the way to the renaissance and medieval times. It includes several periods: baroque, classicism, romanticism, impressionism. From the point of view of 20th and 21st century all these periods are classical when we compare them to the development in 20th century music and the rise of modern music, as in Moderna, and Avant-Garde. Later we have contemporary music, post-modern etc, all with various styles.

But not to hijack this thread with all this talk about periods and styles, I will just say - Great list Toasty, keep it up

Classical music is a colloquialism used to generalize music. It's like using "classic rock" as a genre. Massive generalizations are bad.

#13: Kraftwerk: Trans Europe Express

Yup, I'm quite fond of these musical germano-bots. I remember having H1N1 and my friend bought me a CD to cheer me up. She knew Kraftwerk was one of my favourite bands, and that I wanted a physical copy REALLY bad. well, she went to the CD store and picked this up for me and it really helped me feel a little happier. Sure, there's a huge chance that I'm going to die in the next few hours of swine flu, but Hey! I have a kraftwerk CD so it's all good. Early hip-hop begins at this album. In fact, without kraftwerk, a lot of my favourite genres wouldn't exist. no IDM, no D'n'B, no Techno, nothing. I really owe a lot to this album, be it cheering up when I had the flu, or influencing my favourite genres.

#12: Boards Of Canada: IABPOITC

This is one of the most perfect EPs ever made. Not a single song is flawed. The EP opens with the projector-filled Kid For Today, which TOTALLY reminds me of when you're in the state of hypnogogia. I's eerie, it's strange but it's welcome. the next track, Amo Bishop Roden is a dreamy, foggy ambient track with pitter pattering percussion, that reminds me of winter (my favourite season) and the sunrises at 7:00 am that I used to look at in awe when I was younger. The title track, In A Beautiful Place Out In The Country, is what drifting out of your conscious mind sounds like. It's dreamy and hazy, yet there's something deranged about it. Like a black hole. It's undeniably amazing and a beautiful wonder of physics, but if you come too close, you will get sucked in and squashed infinitely and will never come out. you are nothing. For some odd reason, that is beautiful to me. The last track is my favourite. It reminds me of signals being sent back to earth from space. It's absolutely breathtaking. And if you've been reading this list, you'll know that I dig repetition. this song nails my favourite kind of repetition right on the head.

Well, I couldn't decide on the #11 spot so I had to invent a new number that's between 12 and 11.

#Pinecone: Mogwai: Young Team

This is one of my favourite album covers. sure is pretty, isn't it? this album is also responsible for my post-rock fan-girl-ism, and it's also responsible for my friend's current Mogwai obsession. This album has a very rainy, sad feeling to it. This is an album meant to be listened to in the winter, at night. It fits the mood very well. Some of my favourite songs on this album are Tracy, Yes! I Am A long Way From Home!, and A Cheery Wave From Stranded Youngsters. Yes! I Am A Long Way From Home is probably the best album opener ever, with the highly emotional vocal sample at the beginning and the quiet, atmospheric ambiance of the song.Tracy is another album favourite, with another highly emotional vocal sample at the beginning. This is the song that brought me to tears on the album. A Cheery Wave From Stranded Youngsters sounds like it belongs in a crime drama opening sequence, for some reason. This album is quite quiet by the way, so expect to turn it up loud.

(i'm only writing one review because there's an explanation with the other review)

#11: Boards Of Canada: MHTRTC

Ah, yes, Music Has The Right To Children, the album that started the Twoism and WATMM forum obsession. (Just in case if you didn't know, Twoism is a forum where lonely 20-30 year olds go on about how amazing Boards Of Canada is and how they revived IDM and blah blah blah.) well, they have a reason for the obsession. It's one of my favourite albums. Music Has The Right... starts off with the 70's documentary-esque Wildlife Analysis, which quickly fades into An Eagle In Your Mind, one of THE BEST trip-hop tracks I've ever heard. There's something about it that reigns supreme over any of the songs on Portishead's album Dummy. It's just so... desolate, yet beautiful. But this album isn't just sweet trip-hop and old documentaries, this album can get pretty damn creepy. The Colour Of The Fire, for example. It's one of the creepiest tracks I've ever heard, EVER! you've got a creepy backing track to a creepy girl saying "I love you". After that, you've got the awesome-est song on the album, Telephasic Workshop. It features a hypnotic synth line with cut-up vocal samples. I could swear to god one voice is going "bacon... bacon bacon..." in the background. a few of my other favourites are Rue The Whirl, another great trip-hop track. Aquarius, the 12th song on the album, is possibly the oddest song I've ever heard. You've got kids giggling and going "Yeah, That's Right!" while a man and a woman exclaim "ORANGE!". after a bit of "ORANGE!"es and "Yeah, That's Right!"s, a woman starts counting. If you don't believe, look it up and see! this album has a very childish and nostalgic flair to it, and has deemed itself worthy to be on this list. Yeah, I'm a BOC nut, but who cares! there are millions of aphex fanboys out there who are ten times worse.

Also:
I AM ONLY DOING THESE ONE AT A TIME NOW FOR THE TOP TEN. OKAY?

Good to see Young Team around, as "Mogwai Fear Satan" is probably my favorite song of all-time. Liking the list.

I was wondering when you were going to post your next choice and what an album to pick. I hope your dog is ok though.

#10: Slint: Spiderland

WARNING: this entry will not make sense because the author only got 15 minutes of sleep; don't expect it to be insightful in any way! Hello, People! I haven't been here in a while, because my computer was being ubuntu'd. now, onwards. Of course this album is on the list. Haven't you guys seen me defending this album in the unpopular music opinion thread? yep, an album has to be damn good in order for me to defend it. Well, this album is definitely creepy and deranged. I mean, the creepy lyrics, the fact that Slint was going crazy at the time of making and just the overall feel and sound. This is the album that started math rock and post rock. Also, the story behind the album name is pretty cool, too. Sorry about this entry not making sense, I just deprived myself of sleep and I'm starting to hallucinate. I swear to god a few seconds ago a giant helicopter silently flew 50 ft. above my house.
