Yeah I understand, the screamy/shouty lyrical style was definitely an acquired-taste, exposure-effect thing for me. I used to think it "ruined" albums too and I hope you'll feel as I currently do someday.

Longwave, Secrets Are Sinister, 2008
(I loved their first two albums, but lost interest after the horrible "There's A Fire." A fantastic return to form for a criminally underrated band)

Tahiti 80, Activity Center, 2009
(Excellent English-speaking French pop group who are virtually unknown in the states)

The United States of America, self-titled, 1968
(Melodic, psychedelic rock album that didn't do a thing upon late 60s release. "The Garden of Earthly Delights" is among the standout tracks)

Talking Heads, More Songs About Building and Food, 1978
(I dismissed this band for so long. Now I wonder why; love the nervy energy on this one)

It's all about Built To Spill. I discovered them this year, and, well, Perfect From Now On is a wonderful record.

All the beatles stuff. I have always loved the Beatles, but I never REALLY knew the Beatles. I mostly listened to the Red and the Blue albums before this year, and I am really getting into all of their not well known stuff.

Yep that's my favorite Talking Heads Album, closely followed by Remain in Light. Yeah, the energy really stands out in that album, especially starting out with Thank You For Sending Me an Angel, and then the bass line in With Our Love is pretty amazing. Now that I think about there's a lot of great bass lines in that album.

I've been slowly working my way through Squarepusher's discography lately, having never heard anything from him until just recently.

Dude's a staggeringly talented musician (both analog and digital). The solo bass tracks on Ultravisitor are just unreal.
