Do you talk to people about music IRL?

You and me live in two totally different worlds (obviously), but I've known people like that, and I can tell you that most of the people I've known that 'were' like that are either dead from drug/alcohol abuse, or have since grown up, started a family, and music is really the farthest thing on their minds.

The ones that were of the "Yeah! Slayer rules! Brittany Spears is a poser! Pop music ****ing sucks!" type. I subscribed to that montra at one time, but was always a little leary of that mindset, because in my mind some pop is really good, but I couldn't let on for fear of being ridiculed. Now days, I don't give a **** what anyone thinks of me. It's hard to discuss music with some of my friends because of the fact that their eyes glaze over when I start talking about what effects are being used, naming guitars being used, rhythm types, etc. who the artist was influenced by... ad nauseam.

Sure, I talk to people about music irl, just not to the extent that I do with people here. It's mostly within a particular niche for particular people. There's the friend I talk about jazz with, there's the friend I talk about 90s alt/indie/punk/hardcore with, there's the coworker I talk about 60s and 70s music with, and so on and so forth.

My friends tell me I'm talking too much about music, but they come to me for recommendations so it's all good. Made a Spotify mixtape yesterday. Yesterday was a good day.

I talk to people about music:

1. If I know them, and I know they like good music. People who don't like good music aren't worth talking to about music.

2. Someone talks to me about music.

3. If I see someone randomly wearing a band shirt of a good band or music artist.

That's really it, I talk to people about music, I think I know about 3 or 4 people who I can talk to about music, and only 1 of them really has interest/taste at the same level as me. We're music nuts, not everyone's going to be as crazy about music as us, and even some of the people on this site aren't as crazy about music as the others. This is where I go to talk about music more often than not, because it's a concentration of those people who enjoy music.

Only with my closest friends, who happen to be my bandmates, so you could expect that. Sometimes I'll talk to people about music but it's usually when I find out they play an instrument or something like that. As for the "what do you listen to" question, I tell them mostly experimental music, jazz, psychedelic, and classical music. Sometimes they'll inquire on experimental music but when they have to ask it's like explaining colour to a blind man.

I remember almost every conversation and every argument I had with someone irl about music tho. I really don't remember any extensive conversation on MB. Mostly on my part it's more like reading what someone has written. Not much a back and forth dialog, not quite what I expected it to be.

Conversations I had with Mel, Paul, Hermione and Silenzio in plug are the ones I remember the most. Paul went to every conceivable concert imagine. I do that too. I know a few people (in real life) that devote themselves to a single genre, I remember a few people who were like that irl. One guy only listen Jazz and would never consider listening to Rock. Another guy was solely into Soul music. My cousins are very much into Heavy Metal and nothing else.

I think you get that here too. One person might be into fourth wave emo and another is totally into totally into The Beatles and another into totally Madonna. You have to know what I mean, right?
