Which 'indie sound' is he referring to? Indie rock, indie pop, indie folk, post-punk, indie emo, shoegaze, dream pop, twee, indietronica, noise pop, psychedelic pop?

I can think of plenty of artists who might be tagged as 'indie' but sound absolutely nothing alike. What's the point complaining when indie is one of the loosest terms used in music? Even mainstream pop and rock artists get tagged as 'indie'.

Yeah, when you have bands like Imagine Dragons that get labelled as indie (nothing against them by the way), it really does mean that the word has no real meaning when used as a description of an artist's sound.

Indie isn't a genre or even a description of a sound.

Indie [Insert Actual Genre] can be classified as genre though, however misleading and non-specific it is.
