You're right, especially because I'm poor as hell and if every download of Frownland was bought for like 8 bucks instead I'd probably have made like thirty dollars that I could spend on alcohol and drugs. So basically I just suck.

At the moment the music industry is trying the backward and confusing approach of enforcing (as much as they can) IP rights law combined with DRM (taking away the copy, edit and save functions of music players) and patronising propaganda about how torrenting is bad mmm'kay!

The fan's right to enjoy free music trumps the artist's right to be compensated for their hard work and sacrifice.

???

People say, yeah...but making music is fun. Does that mean that if you like your job, you shouldn't get paid? BS. I've seen people try to justify file sharing for a couple decades now. Maybe established acts should stop making quality recordings and just play live shows. Established acts don't need exposure. They don't need to give away music to be heard. They already have a loyal fan-base.

I hope you all understand what it's like to work your ass off to create something cool, and then have someone copy it and makes it available for free. Guess I'm just biased because I'm an artist. I found one of my songs on a mixtape in another country. Some crap-bag was selling my song without my permission. He was being compensated for selling my art, and somehow I'm supposed to be happy about the "exposure?" That's a load of ****.

I've seen so many adds for bands by venues who say, "Does your band need exposure? Come and play at our venue. We don't pay, but you will enjoy free exposure." I got something that I can expose for you.

So it's probably about time I plug this. Like I said in one of my previous posts I'm currently writing a paper on this topic - trying to find new ways I can get artists compensated for their work and at the same time lower the cost of music to people who can't afford it.

So it would be nice to get the opinions of music aficionados, as opposed to the derps on Facebook who've already filled it out. It only takes a minute or two and would really aid my research.

Music Pricing, Promotion & Distribution Survey

Cheers!

You would do better to create a thread dedicated to this survey. People might skip right over this post whereas a thread with Survey in the title will pique peoples interests more.

BTW, I have 4 albums I've released. I don't have a problem with making them available for free since they aren't professionally produced, and my costs to create them are minimal. It may not be a popular thing to do, but I have no problem with it for now. Besides, the stuff I create isn't everybody's cup-o-tea. Not a lot of amateur guitar instrumental enthusiasts out there.

If I were to pay for professional production, and have a full band along with me, that's where the freebies end.
