1. David Bowie - "Changes"
Bowie is my second most played artist of the year so far (after Simon and Garfunkel), and I've been playing this song almost every day since I discovered him thanks to Urban's "Bowie Week".

2. Chilliwack - "Fly At Night"
Heard this on the radio a few weeks ago. It's one of the better things Can-con regulations have brought to my attention.

3. The Cars - "You Might Think"
Haven't been playing this as much lately, but it was a daily listen throughout most of January. I can actually thank Cars 2 for bringing it to my attention a few years ago, and I rediscovered it when I rewatched the movie with my younger cousins.

4. Boston - "More Than a Feeling"
Come at me. I've been getting into hard(er) rock lately, and this is one of those songs that just stand out.

5. Dantalian's Chariot - "Madman Running Through the Fields"
We listened to Chariot Rising in the Psychlub last year, and I've been playing this track obsessively since. One of those forgotten gems of the '60s.

Lately, I've slacked off on new releases and just dug through the vaults of the past.

For the last month:

1. FKA twigs - Lights On
"Give Up" has actually gotten more plays from me overall, but a lot of that was in December. I moved onto this track when I started getting burned out on the other, thinking I should probably explore the full album a little more, and this was one that stuck. I really enjoy her use of electronics, especially with some of the weird pitch bends. (Also, "Lemme tell you I'm your secret santa,")

2. Viet Cong - March of Progress
Started listening to the S/T after I saw one of you here posting about it, and when I had it playing sort of in the background, my ear found it suitably acceptable, but it wasn't until the section at the end of this track that my ear perked up and started paying attention. I still feel as though the structuring of this track is a little off-kilter; the beginning portion could probably be a good minute shorter. Still, that shimmering F major with all the bright, ricocheting guitar tones and the driving drum beat in the background is fantastic. That kind of enveloping musical texture is what I friggin' live for.

3. Francis Dhomont - Musique de chambre
This is definitely a track to hear with headphones. The darting pizzicato sounds really fill out the sound spectrum in contrast to the warmer melodic voices. It's a really well-placed track in the context of the full album as well, since it follows up the almost-9 minute "Foret furieuse", which is jam-packed with abstract drones and oscillating filters. The rhythmic and melodic content (at least in the sense that there are distinct and separate "objects" for the ear to latch on to) in "Musique de chambre" poses an effective contrast, not to mention its relative brevity at only two and a half minutes.

4. Danny Brown - Pac Blood
I picked up XXX about a month or two ago. I'd heard about Danny Brown for a while and I've been gradually trying to expand myself into the realm of hip hop. It's always been a hurdle for me since I tend to focus a lot more on music itself rather than words. While I can find a lot of hip hop tracks with catchy and/or interesting beats, I still don't necessarily feel like I'm taking it in the way it's meant to be.

5. Janelle Monáe - Ghetto Woman
This was actually a song I got into about a year and a half ago. I just come back to it every once in a while because the second half is catchy as hell. It seems strange that one of my favorite parts would be the guitar solo at the end because it doesn't seem like it's meant to be any kind of focal point, at least not in the full structure of the song.

Not the most diverse list, and it's not counting a bunch of Panda Bear and Sleater-Kinney plays from my phone. It's worth noting that Aphex Twin is my most scrobbled artist of the year so far, but I've only listened to a handful of the now-155 soundcloud tracks more than once or twice.
