Whenever someone asks me (ask me, ask me, ask me) what music I listen to, I usually respond with "eh, I like The Smiths". Oddly enough, I don't think I've listened to them for months.

Music can totally be misused as some sort of badge of cultural capital. Almost everything I like is uncool, so I don't have the luxury of being able to impress music snobs :P

Tell me... What do you listen to?

The Sm... uh...

I usually hesitate to tell people what I listen to because if I do, they'll think I'm some sad, sappy sucker. Lately I've been listening to a bunch of My Bloody Valentine, At the Drive-In, Cap'n Jazz and The Jesus and Mary Chain. I find the safest thing is to just say "alternative rock and punk".

Awesome you like them! They're very unique and have a wonderful energy. The first track of the album is not on youtube, but it's a lot more abrasive/hardcore and as you're not into Punk I doubt you'd care as much for it anyways. https://soundcloud.com/bleeblah/mido...eryone-nice-to

Don't think I wasn't about to notice that Modest Mouse reference.

Also love all those bands, ATDI is the GOAT.

I'll check that dictionary, but in the meantime I'm impressed - as is everyone else in the world - by your eloquence, obvious accomplishments and success, and the evidence of your blazingly high intelligence.

Awesome drums! They just sound really, really good to me somehow.

I don't really have a favourite genre - I just tend to like random things with little rhyme or reason to the pattern. Turns out that wild track you linked is pretty great! Maybe the closest thing to this that I'm into is some of the more abrasive Dir En Grey tracks or the freakier moments in Maximum the Hormone. Not that those two bands are hardcore punk as far as I know.

I just like unique bands with a lot of personality.

Aww come on man, fly that freak flag proud! Who cares what anyone else thinks. I'm into Loreena McKennitt, so you're edgy as **** next to me XD

Hormone started as a Hardcore Punk/Crossover Thrash band, and still has some of it (and pop punk) in their sound. Both the traditional and more Beatdown Hardcore style. I love Hormone too, so unique and fun.
Glad you digged the Midori link. I wonder what you'd think of this unique Japanese hardcore punk band https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jr5MqYxfZKY.

the Idol Punch track was cool in the first few seconds because the drum and bass sound great! The vocals grate a bit though and the guitars are... quite busy! Not saying I hate it... just might take some adjustment time. Again, great drums.

The second band (秒殺エンドルフィン ???) were kind of interesting. Pretty noisy, but also melodic. Some of the guitar passages were pretty cool. I think I liked it better than the first one, even though I thought at first that it reminded me uncomfortably of Blink 182 (didn't last long).

Curious to know if you like 88kasyo junrei? I bumped into them by chance and they're a sort of raw japanese rock band. Might be your cup of tea. I think they're pretty interesting.
