so it's probably futile but still, i m gonna do a 3rd tape
i think thats mostly because i dont have time (nor the desire at the moment) to write a new one. so i m going to write about an old one.
i ll give it its working title, it comes from the cover i put to it and we ll call it "red balloon"

it gets a bit more experimental by my standards but it doesnt start like that.

next is sixtoo a ninja tune artist who i love.
he doesnt have many things officially published but his 2 albums are both great, with "jackals and vipers in envy of man" beeing my favorite. the track i choose is part 4.

after that, we ve got a track from another record i find absolutely great: 2016's Mark Ernestus' ndagga rhythm force's Yermande. you may know Mark Ernestus as 1/2 of the dub band Rhythm & Sound (or some of his many other projects i know nothing about )
this here is 100% unclassifiable by me, and i dont agree with any of the classifications i found about it.

the 4th track is by Kode 9 and the Spaceape. kode 9 is the boss of hyperdub label which is a very important label for this sound. i relly dag some dubstep stuff like burial and kode9. then at some point, nobody informed me about that but, dubstep started meaning something else, some shιtty post-r&b music that i absolutely hate. in my mind the classification is uk dubstep vs this-other-horrible-thing.
this track is called Curious, album's from 2006, called memories of the future.

next up we ve got Tricky. the year's 2001 and the album blowback. it's a good album, although not as good as maxinquaye or pre-millenium tension.

Laurel Halo: I sometimes find Laurel Halo interesting, but usually to hear a whole album by her is too much for me. this is probably my favorite track of hers, its called thaw.

on track nr 8 we hear a track from Jackie-o mother****er.
i would describe them as a combination of folk,jazz and post rock or more generally improv.
i dont know how popular/known they are even in the jazz/experimental field. i hope they're pretty damn popular cause they really deserve it.

i ve heard 4-5 of their records, all in the 2000-2005 era and i think they re pretty solid.
"your cells are in motion " is a slow-burning track, you could probably classify it as post-rock. i really love the way it sounds inside the record (called Fig. 5) and especially how it is followed by another great track the hypnotic "Go down, old Hannah"..

i can't talk about the next track without rementioning the wire magazine. thats because i would have never have discovered the books (until at least...2016 i think) if this album wasnt nr 1 in their 2005 review of the year.. this more than deserves it, its a great piece of art that defies classification.

i dont think i can describe it, certainly not using a language i am not fluent enough with. so i ll hope you re already familiar with them, or, if this is not the case, that you ll hear this track and be motivated to give the whole album a listen.

critics seem to like the lemon of pink better, for me it isnt even a contest, lost and safe is a masterpiece and all the other 3 are great records but just not as good.

anyone has an opinion about that and cares to share it?

i hope CAN are considered as huge as they should be considered, everywhere in the world. i thought they definitely were, until i read a big article- i think it was on pitchfork. it was when they re-released their entire catalog and it said something like "lets hope they ll get the attention they deserve etc etc". after that i am not sure about how are they viewed by US listeners, artists etc.

in the tape we got a track from the period Damo Suzuki was with them on vocals, probably their most celebrated period. its 1972 the record is Ege Bamyasi and the track's called spoon.

why? odd nosdam and doseone have recorded some material as cLOUDEAD.
i would totally recommend both of their albums (actually the 1st one is a collection of eps) as they are in my opinion one of the best samples of underground/indie/alt/how'dyoucallthat hip hop done in the late 90s-early00's era.
all artists are heavily affiliated with the anticon label and helped shape its sound, though their albums as cLOUDEAD were released in mush records (and/or Big Dada the hiphop brunch of ninja tune for europe)

approaching the end and on track nr 12 there's καθίζηση by Spy F and the Zakulas.
this is as obscure as it gets. i mean its pretty damn obscure even in my country, a one-off collaboration of spyros faros a "cult" (i hate this term but in lack of a better one) underground 80's greek punk scene guitarist, with a completely unknown mc (probably his first ever recording) and a couple unknown to me producers. the result was a real gem, released by a small record store's label (pop art records)

the lyrics are pretty good in my opinion, psychedelic/surrealistic images or sometimes stories and free association. but do give it a try just for the production and flow, i think that it delivers in any of these areas. id really be interested to hear opinions if anyone bothers to hear that one.....
