Lisnaholic, don't apologize for having an opinion! I'm happy people even listened. People can be so close minded these days.

Troll, don't forget Cranberries. Oops, I'm not sure they're from Northern Ireland. I don't know this Jedward. Van Morrison, not really my cup of tea either.

Beiber and Celine have been disowned by a number of Canadians.

Bieber also is good friends with some of the Toronto Maple Leafs hockey team. That may be a curse, which in my opinion would be a good thing!

I do like Bryan Adams. Reckless is an absolute classic album.

Yeah there are some really good Irish acts. If you don't know Jedward consider yourself lucky. I won't pollute the forum with their - well, what can I call it? Hmm. I suppose I have to call it music, though that's really stretching the definition - but here. You can guess what to expect from them.

Cranberries are from Limerick, so the Republic, where I is.

P.S. Morrison sucks. That is all.

Thanks, music collector. That's a nice thing to say!

I have lots of respect for Canadian artists, but not so much the ones you and TH are talking about. Plenty of folk artists to be proud of, from Neil Young, Kate&Anna McGarrigle to La Bottine Souriante and The Ranklin Family. Here's my fave from The Ranklins:-

- so, yeah, some distance from the Matthew Good Band in terms of style

Wow, I forgot about Neil Young. He, alone, saves Canada from music Hell.

To be perfectly honest, I think 99% of the rest of the world thinks those people are Americans.

You may be right! I wouldn't take that as an insult, if someone called me American. Some of the nicest people I've met are American. Most of us canucks live along the border anyway.

Neil Young, yeah he makes up for a lot of our musical duds.

I know the Rankins. Speaking of which, there's a quasi new band fronted by another Rankin. Check out Archie, marry me by Alvvays. Pure poppy goodness. That song stayed rent free in my head for a solid month. So catchy!

Bro, I ****ing love that song. I didn't realize Alvvays were Canadian. That song was a staple of my radio DJ sets in my college days.

^ Is that right, SGR? First time I've ever heard that song, or the band. Also, (@mc) the first time I've come across someone who has heard of The Ranklins: big day for me!

I'll reuse an old joke - Nice 'do, more like a don't. I don't even want to know. Just the thought of them makes me shiver. I'm listening to Muse to rid myself of that evil.

You know what they remind me of? A place on the east coast called Hopewell rocks. They're rock formations that look like flower pots at low tide.

Rankins? I think they're like royalty on the east coast.

Kate&Anna McGarrigle to La Bottine Souriante
I've heard of the McGarrigles, but don't know any of their music. I see they're Montrealers! Nothing wrong with that. La Bottine, I know the name, but again, not the music. My aunt is probably aware of them. She listens to more French music than me.
