Yeah, and I guess that was always my biggest problem with Conor. I just couldn't get past all that bleakness, and it seemed like that was the only tool he reall had in his bag. To me, it didn't even seem like intellectual bleakness or like it had any real end in mind....like Sarte or something......but more just sadness for the sake of being sad. But as I got a little older I was able to kind of weed out what I didn't like and not dismiss his entire body of work.

it's very good, but i wouldn't say "Greatest" Conor has done a lot of great stuff pretty much all of the albums are near equal in "Greatness".

My favorite is a tie between Cassadaga, Digital Ash In a Digital Urn, and LIFTED

Is his voice always so grating and horrible?

no, that's mostly in the old stuff, but his voice isn't all that bad when you think of just a few bands or artists:
Lil Wayne
Well basically any rappers that smoke a lot
Bob Dylan (new Stuff)
Joanna Newsom
Screamo Music
Etc...

Hell, Tom Waits voice is pretty scraggly. But of the people mentioned here that I have listened to (Lil Wayne, new Bob Dylan, a bit of Tom Waits), the difference between them and him is his voice whines and annoys me. BUT that's just on one song, the one I have, which is When the President Talks to God.

Conor's voice is just something you have to get past. It's only extremely prevolent in slower songs like Hot Knives though. I've never had a problem with Waits or Lil' Wayne though.

I disagree.

I don't think it's something you're supposed to get past.

I personally enjoy his voice and find it to add more to the music than someone else's voice would.

True that.

Anyway, I just have one song, and it doesn't bother me way much. I feel like it's a little grating to my ears though.
