Iiiiinteresting. I have to admit i'm given up on it really, couldn't settle into it, but you've convinced me to give it a bit more of a go.

Yeah, i haven't heard it yet, but I think I'm gonna have to run out and buy it just cause you guys say it's awesome. Of Montreal is easily one of my favorite all time bands.

Ive heard such mixed things...from what I gather its a poorly assembled funk version of the beach boys' "smile"...which could go either way...

I cannot understand for a second why anybody would make a comparison between this album and Smile. It's also not half as eclectic as people are making out, and certainly not so much of a mess at all. It's better thought of as a really long medley rather than something that's "poorly assembled". The parts from the distinguishable songs fit together seamlessly.

I'd argue that Barnes has created his own genre of pop music with this record and the second half of Hissing Fauna. There is really nothing like it in existence.

I definetly warmed up to this album, but I really dont see it as a continuation of Hissing Fauna. I feel like after 'Gallery Piece' the album gets lost until around 'Death is not a parallel move'. If the beginning of that song was a whole song the album would have turned out better. It sounds like he created something really awesome but couldnt take it any further. Decent album overall, I would put it around 3rd or 4th out of their discography.

If the connection between the freak funk on this album and the songs on the second half of Hissing Fauna is anything less than strikingly apparent, it can only be explained by not having heard enough of either one or the other.

Ive actually never listened to it. The 'smile' comparison I assumed after Barnes said in an interview that the album was constructed out of hundreds of brief musical sections...like smile.

Hmm...that's a good comparison now that I think of it. I was actually thinking Smile was like Animal Collective, without the screaming and electronica...but this one works two.
