Barclay James Harvest and John Mayalls Bluesbreakers were important artists too.

Only kidding.
Maybe metal heads don't like acid dance music.

Your deflection of subject conversation is legendary. BJH are hardly a cult band and John Mayalls Bluesbreakers are probably THE quintessential British Blues Rock band. Both originally hail from Manchester.

To answer your original post: Joy Division serve up a grey depressed demeanour coupled with an intelligence and resilience that best describes my view of Manchester. I see a lot of similarities with B'ham.

I can't be too critical or you will ban me.
But lets say that while your bands are good they deserve a mention but they are off shoots and they didn't really speak to kids new coming through but rather to already done kids who had grown and evolved with steady eddy laid back musak.
Do you see?
It is like if Noel goes now and does some work on other groups and sings about divorce and life as a middle aged man.
My bands were starting something for the next lot new and fresh.
I don't like Joy division much but I put them in because I appreciate others love them, you see?
And they were influential whereas your two bands or artists while good probbaly didn't do much for kids looking for something as they peak and flourish.

You have never heard BJH so stop talking balls . I get what you mean with John Mayall though. John Mayall knew feck all about music and made a few dusty blues influenced records that don't really matter now..

I have not heard of him or them.
But offshoots are good as we age.
Like I said I like Oasis for tracks like stop crying your heart out and let there be love and sunday morning call because sunday morning call came out at an apt time for me around 2000 working in the city and I could relate to it and it's words where I was at at the time and I still love that song as noone knew where I was at. That is how bands like Claptons and dylans get to relate to their growing audience as we all get older and produce real deep stuff.
But I know that it is usually a bands initial impact that matters the most to a young generation.
And impact is alot to do with it.

Oasis above all those bands? Sheesh. That's a lot of regard for a band that was neither innovative nor brilliant.

Mine:

The Fall
The Stone Roses
The Buzz****s
Joy Division/New Order
The Smiths
Happy Mondays

Agreed Oasis shouldn't be on that list they haven't done anything really new.

Joy Division
Smiths
Fall
Happy Mondays
Stone Roses

Yeh this thread isnt going to last long seeing as everyone is naming the same bands.

But it all boils down to Joy Division
