oh jesus christ. Guess what, I don't know what "real emo" is and I constantly ascribe the term "indie" to the wrong bands too.

The title was "greatest alternative song," but you're saying it can't be popular now? So what is this thread? The best **** song to come out since 1999?

It was a huge hit in the states too. How many other songs do you know that sound like SNA?

No need to lose your marbles, I'm not being anal for the sake of it... I'm just trying to understand the ridiculously vague 'alternative' bracket, because Seven Nation Army is a great pop song, it just happens to have distorted guitars in it like everything else and sound like led zeppelin.

So the thread title is 'greatest alternative song' of the decade, I wanted to see if anybody else noticed what a subjective term that is; we might as well call it 'your favourite song of the past 10 years' because clearly we all have different ideas on what 'alternative' means.
For that reason I don't find the term at all helpful, it belongs in late 80's/early 90's American rock press, when alternative rock genuinely was the alternative to the mainstream at the time.
