Nobody walks into a room and declares "EFF YEaH im InDiE!!!"
it's a fashion choice, it's a taste in specific music, it's an aesthetic that people go by. They aren't nessicarily even politcal. They don't have to reject established society.

Comparing every cultural movement to "hippies" makes you sound like you're 68 years old.

So what's the enduring theme of indie fashion /asthetic/music ? could you describe it.i ask as an old oasis fan

These days, "Indie" is a Hipster's shorthand for what was once known as College Rock. It used to mean a way of doing business while trying to avoid the influence of major label suits, but sadly those days are over it seems.
