"Slacker" is how Mascis made virtuosic electric guitar playing "cool" enough to become prevalent in indie rock. Before Dinosaur Jr., punks preferred three-chord guitar and if you played a solo you were ostracized. With his "don't give a **** attitude" Mascis's guitar skill was embraced because it didn't seem like he was doing it for attention (when of course he obviously was)...

Why does it sound lazy? Because of the Lo-Fi production values? I dislike the 'slacker' label, it's stupid, whilst suggesting that little effort was put into the recording is perplexing. There's so much energy and aggression in those solos, power chords, rhythm sections and Mascis' vocals. It's a well constructed, affecting album, I cannot see the lack of effort anywhere.

i couldn't hear anything but single takes, the construction sounds slapped together

which is fine if your name is Neil Young, but not J. Mascis

This clearly isn't a conversation worth continuing on with.

I listened to this again yesterday (first time in about three years) and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Agree with the problematic "slacker" term.

Off this album, Green Mind is spilling over with raw, punk attitude in Mascis' vocals. Just saying.
