They really mix it up with fast and slow paced songs but even if you were looking just for the melancholy slow burn ones there are plenty of those there also.

^^Thats not too bad. I can see how they built their sound through this style of tension and release with the break in the middle to a crescendo and outro, which is the same with quite a few of their tunes. It's the content that gets you there that has to pop for me, and it does fall a little flat for some reason. Maybe I need a few listens. Maybe I'm just not in the mood.

Either way, I appreciate the rec.

I find TWOD to be quite similar to Dire Straits, or the few songs I know by them anyway, so strange that this didn't click for you, but so it goes...

I listened to these guys a lot while flying and it is quite a special experience.

I had more than a few bands which required a few listens before I got into them. Usually I get hooked by a song and check out the album a few times. If it still doesn't work, no use trying (although there were also a few examples where I didn't really take to an album and later fell in love with it). It depends on many factors I guess!

Some songs by MMJ are kinda okay but overall they do nothing for me.
There is something about Indie/Alternative that is really off-putting to me and I can't even exactly tell what it is. There are a few bands I like and I try every year to get over whatever is bothering me and get into more bands but so far not much success.

I'm not sure that the indie/alernative label fits for either MMJ or TWOD, the former for me is a classic southern rock band, latter just a classic rock band.

Also, it's such a wide label to put anything under that it's difficult to imagine you mean some particular aspect of indie/alternative band "sound" that is offputting to you. Might just be some weird prejudice? As in, hipster kids get on your tits? Either way, you should be old and wise enough to take every band on its own merits...

I agree about TWOD not being particularly in that camp. I disliked them for other reasons.
I really think it is about sound for me but as I said, I'm unsure what exactly. My listening habits are far too varied and I'm much too interested in music to give a **** about hipster kids and other dumb prejudices.

Yeah I mean that adds up. I just think of Mark Knopfler as a more technical wizard on the guitar. Sultans of Swing, Single-handed Sailor, or even later stuff like Punish the Monkey doesn't seem comparable to TWOD.

But I'm the minority here.
