What's the best Jodie Foster movie? My personal vote goes to Carnage.
Also: Gravity is a buzz kill so I can relate to complaining about physics.

Last but not least: The dogs bark worse than they bite and the forum is friendlier than it seems
The best Jodie Foster performance is in the Accused, I guess, but my favourite Jodie Foster movie is the Hotel New Hampshire just because it introduced me to her. And it's strange af.

The MB forums can be a bit rude and crude at times but the people here are mostly cool and pretty chill behind the mask of nihilistic ****ery and really knowledgeable and passionate about music.

Oh and I love Amsterdam! Fantastic city!
Thanks for the welcome! (to all of you of course) Right now I'm writing a thesis on topological string theory. I'm still figuring out what it's all about but it's really interesting

Sounds cool.
String theory is fascinating but it's hard to get into it without getting really deep into the math.
A bit of math is okay (I'm an engineer and can take some) but at some point, and pretty quick, I'm lost.

I get that. Especially since subjects like string theory (or pretty much all physics since quantum mechanics) are really only understood on a mathematical level, so apart from that there is not much to get into. As soon as you ask what it actually means nobody knows...

I bet it still becomes quite intuitive at some point. I think Leonard Susskind had quite a nice talk about how ingrained such mathematical thinking can become with practice.

True, that takes some time though. With string theory I'm not there yet. I'll check out that talk by Susskind, thanks!

Now that I think about it, it might have been just a small part of some lecture or interview, so it might be hard to find.
