What Jazz album are you listening to?

Following up on a recommendation by grindy, I´m listening to a 1981 album of jazz fusion; Bazaar, by Oriental Wind. I nearly posted this in the Separated at Birth thread, because half-way through I began to wonder if Elton Dean had a twin, separated at birth, who grew up in Turkey. Here´s my forensic evidence; track #6. Does anybody else notice a similarity in the DNA?

In actual fact the sax player is a guy called Lennart Aberg. He´s one of three Swedish musicians who make up the band, along with a couple of Turkish guys.

Miles Davis "Big Fun"

This is easily the most underrated album of Miles Davis's career. It pains me that they never released the extended version on vinyl (the 2000 reissue with the extra tracks). It's got the beautiful ambience of In a Silent Way, the groove and funk of On the Corner, and the hypnotic spell of Bitches Brew. The only reason no one considered it a masterpiece back then is because it was recorded over a number of years between the sessions for Bitches Brew, Jack Johnson, and On the Corner. So most critics treated it as left over material and labeled it as "disjointed" or "thrown together". But just one listen (especially the extended version with one of my personal favorites "Yaphet") is all you need to know that this is an absolutely essential Davis album.

Listening to John Coltrane - Interstellar Space

Trying to figure out what he's thinking about while he's playing this, since there aren't any chord changes or anything. I want to get to like it, but I don't understand it yet.

That's my favourite from Coltrane and it probably falls in my top ten albums of all time. I'm not quite sure what he's thinking but I love what he's doing. Plus ****ing Rashied Ali dude. Damn.

My favorite album from Coltrane is still A Love Supreme, and I don't know if anything else he has done is as emotional as that album. I love that one just way too much. You like any of Mingus' free-ish jazz? He liked to make fun of free jazz a lot.

Hmm, I think Dearly Beloved is Coltrane's most emotional track and that's off Sun Ship. You might want to check your facts mate.

And yes, Mingus is great, and I can hear what you describe in The Clown.

All I know is that Coltrane intended A Love Supreme to be a spiritual thing for himself, and that's just what I hear. Then again, I feel like I can feel him sobbing whenever I listen to Naima.

You like Stan Kenton's City of Glass? I need to get that album.. And everything else Coltrane has ever released.
