Best Blues Guitarists.

Thanks for the welcome, lisnaholic....and yes...I am a lover of the blues. Although I didn't know it until about 20 yrs ago....when a friend of mine pointed out that my favorite bands were the stones, zeppelin, Hendrix, Janis, cream, etc....and that maybe I should check out who their influences were...immediately went out and found muddy, wolf, sonny boy, BB, Elmore James...and the light went on over my head..lol.

By the way ....thanks for posting those.

From pop and rock, I was guided towards the blues by Cream, too, and The Allman Brothers. In fact, I still prefer modern elec blues with lots of excessive guitar playing. With the exception of Howlin`Wolf, I often find some of those earlier pioneers you mention a little too tame, a little too focused on lyrics... always open to fresh recommendations though !

Clapton Vs Stevie ray, what do you guys think?

It's always been a tough one for me. The only downside to Stevie was that quite a bit of his stuff sounded so similar. Regardless, he could really tear it up in a way clapton couldn't. But Clapton was not as raw and aggressive as Stevie, he was smoother and more polished. When it comes to down pure ability, I'd have to say Stevie takes it. Some of his guitar playing is just mind blowing, like his cover of "little wing". I don't think Clapton has ever really blown me away like that.

It depends on my state of mind. When I want to listen to some rowdy blues, I usually go with Stevie Ray Vaughan. When I'm in a more mellow mood, I usually go with Clapton.

Well, I love very much this performance, although this is not only Clapton.

And, although I don't like Clapton's early blues playing, I have to admit that he is one of the most important English guitarists that made the blues popular. Back in the 60s he was every guitarist's idol, so I have to choose him, although Stevie Ray is a close second.
