Bohemia After Dark

The band leader was Kenny Clarke but it’s been repackaged as Cannonball Adderley

Here’s the personnel so says wiki
Quote:
Kenny Clarke - drums
Cannonball Adderley - alto saxophone feature track 3
Nat Adderley – cornet feature track 7
Donald Byrd - trumpet tracks 1,2 and 5
Jerome Richardson - tenor saxophone, or flute tracks 1,2 and 4
Horace Silver - piano (tracks 1-5 and 7)
Hank Jones - piano (track 6)
Paul Chambers - bass
Man, these shows with all that talent on the stage must’ve been mind-blowing

Joe McPhee
Nation Time

How this isn't regarded a masterpiece by everybody who has ever heard jazz is beyond me. Coltrane is untouchable as far as criticism goes but every other "masterpiece" of avant-garde/free jazz album doesn't hold a candle to this. It's unassailable.

Ja McPhee is on the upper echelon fosho. He's still holding his own in the modern day

I'm listening to Leroy Jenkins.

There’s a lot of candles out there but I respect your enthusiasm.

You know, in hindsight, I was over-zealous. I've listened to it a bunch more and it really just is a well rounded soul jazz record with lots of free and avant-garde moments. The thing rips though. You can dance to it.

The first law of unassailability is that the unassailable can be as good or even better than other music that is just as good or better. It seems counterintuitive at first until you learn the ways of spooky music at a distance.

Considering your taste I assume you love Attica Blues by Archie Shepp?

Also of interest is McPhee’s work with the Deep Listening Band.

I have a beat up early pressing of it sitting on my desk to clean so I don't destroy my needle. I've heard it before and liked it enough to buy it when it came into the shop one day. I'm just not very familiar with it. Once I clean it, I'll get drunk in my apartment and spin it and become sexual with it and get back to you.

The only reason I'm not deleting this is because Elph is never going to see it with this being the jazz section and all. Sheeeeeeesh, dude.
