But why should one be fake when they strive for popularity? The trend i've noticed in people is there is an exponential correlation in stupidity and popularity.
more popular they are.

And I wouldn't say being honest gets me nowhere, besides the fact it destroys my capacity for long-term relationships and any hope in politics will get better, I have low expectations which means low disappointments and my friends actually seek out and listen to my opinion because I don't tell them what a happy lie.

Not gonna lie, that's a bit judging considering you're pretty honest, I think.

Most of the time, but if it would serve me better to be a lying scumbag, I would probably do it.

I could lie and manipulate everyone around me but I really don't see much of a point in it.

I dunno. I can't see you being that great at manipulation, people are already too weary/scared of you for you to be any good at it.

That's a very stereotypical guess. I would have expected better from you.

I don't like the whole "being pessimistic means you'll never be disappointed" way of thinking. I think it's much better to assume that if you want something enough, you'll get it eventually - and if you **** up, you can learn from it and succeed next time.

I do think that being honest is much much better than trying hard to please other people by giving opinions you don't agree with. If you think how you are with your close friends, you don't always agree with them, and you'll let them know. There'll be (friendly) arguments about certain things. Voicing your own opinion and not just thoughtlessly agreeing with everything someone says earns you their respect, as long as you're not being too needlessly aggressive about it.
