$76.81. I had a decent income, and wanted to do something nice for my girlfriend at the time for her birthday for being patient and dealing with me even when I was broke.

There's a lot of what locals call "Old Florida" around the East Coast Central Florida area. Ruins from the Spanish wars with the Native Americans in which many instances of the Native Americans who were enslaved at the Sugar Mills and several of those sugar mills were burned down and they were freed from slavery and returned to their tribes, most typically the Timucua.

12. What is a trend that you see and would like to go away in a genre that you follow?

American Black Metal has a tendency to do a lot of verbal ****-slinging and squabbling over what's essentially nothing. It's for this reason, among cultural differences, why I believe that America kind of lacks the substance that makes Black Metal, well, Black Metal.

Bonus question: What do you call this animal?

Sanctions and direct warfare from the Iraq War has cost around 500,000 Iraqi lives. I don’t believe America would have waged such a war on a white country in this day and age. In today’s world we would have found diplomatic solutions to avoid WW1, the war that had just ended 100 years ago but we go carpet bombing on non-white countries for far less or even no reason at all. As for lynchings, our arrest and forced plea bargain no trial system and the war on drugs is a direct war on black people with some side white casualties. Putting non-violent drug offenders (who are afraid to go to trail) 10-20 year prison sentences where they’re subjected to physical, sexual, and psychological torture stacks up pretty damn well to lynchings. In fact, simply shooting unarmed blacks in the streets of America by our police force IS lynching. So, no, I’m not convinced progress has been made.

^ I assume that Lucem, like me, is thinking in terms of domestic attitudes to race, so talking about geopolitical warfare is a bit off topic, especially as in any case, there was so much white-on-white carpet bombing in the Second World War.

^ Kind of difficult to argue about what might or might have been, but, although the US is not actively participating, Europe itself still witnesses a fair amount of white-on-white warfare, doesn't it? Ukraine, former Yugoslavia, Northern Ireland, etc. If America hasn't bombed the hell out of a Caucasian country since WWII, that may be more about circumstances than deliberate racist policy.

^ Yes, I take your point that black people suffer more than whites under the US judicial system, but that doesn't justify the statement in bold, imo. My understanding is that lynchings took place with the enthusiastic support of the local population, whereas shooting unarmed blacks is often condemned in America, even if the courts usually take the side of the law-enforcers. On balance, it still equals less racism imo.
Plus of course all that progress that the US has made about segregated buses and restaurants. Let's not belittle what the civil rights movement has achieved.

At least, blacks had access to public transportation back before we scaled everything back for the auto-industry.

Check your local county lock-ups website and see how many black people are in jail for probation violations that involve driving on a suspended license.

Common sequence of events:

Impossible to find public transportation to work
Arrested for something blacks are far more likely to get arrested for
Given court fees and fines probation and suspended license
Will be put back in jail in fines aren’t paid
Drives to work because there’s no other choice
Police have a scanner that connects the license plate to a likely suspended license
Black man pulled over and arrested for driving on a suspended license which is a parole or probation violation
Likely sentence for “repeat offender” 2-5 years

That’s far worse than having a back of the bus to sit in. Today, it’s no bus at all and prison.

We want to see the narrative as a productive civil rights movement but like the people in the past we’re blind to our own injustices.

What good is a desegregated bus that doesn’t exist?

Not really. Southerners loved their lynchings no doubt. But I’d wager just as many whites get hard as a rock watching all these police shootings. Post one of those modern day lynchings online and watch the celebration in the comment section begin. And the victims are just as dead as any lynching victim. So what’s the difference to him and his family?
