Maybe they just want to. I've always seen it as a form of trying to show status. Especially in the cases of A&F and the like.

But the funny thing is, really expensive clothes don't normally have the brand name on it.

LOL. About the only brand I stick to are Bonds for their plain cotton t-shirts.

Whatever I can grab for under €25 in Primark (which is usually Ceaderwood State) and Dunnes, If I'm feeling particularly fancy then it's off to Jack And Jones. Cheap **** FTW.

I buy name brand strictly because they typically are built to last. I tend to like the style and cut of the said name brands also. Its never been about having a name brand on my body its about being comfortable and having something that will last. I do see your point though, and often the name is not synonymous with quality on many occassions.

Or maybe they're paying top dollar because they want something that's durable and won't have to be replaced in six months time. Besides that, there's only a handful of articles from Carhartt that seem to really go out of their way to advertise the brand, in most cases it's just that 1 1/2"x1 1/2" square that's off to the side of the clothing, or a little 1/2" strip of leather as in some of the newer articles. People would totally know I was wearing Carhartt if they saw in me this from afar.




Don't get me wrong, I agree with you to some regards about people overpaying for under performing clothing, but I'm a little bewildered why you'd use Carhartt as an example when I think it's probably one of the best quality brands on the market place. I even like how they're starting to expand out and be thought of as an "everyday" brand of clothing than just a working brand. It's not like we're ever going to see an Ed Hardy style shirt carrying the Carhartt brand name.

^^^ Pete, sorry for not explaining more detail, but I was referring to actual Carhartt sweatshirts that say, "CARHARTT", in very large type that stretches across chest, from nipple to nipple if you will. I agree, generally speaking, Carhartt makes very durable clothing; hence my confusion as to why people would pay carhartt prices for a regular sweatshirt emblazoned with the logo.
