Haven’t thought about him in a long time,
but The Jazz Butcher has died.

I was aware of the Chieftains, actually. I think I even saw them on Saturday Night Live way back when. They were around for a good while, weren't they?

I'm glad they mentioned his work at Claddagh
because it's a great label - right up there with Topic -
that advanced many a great Irish bands. The first Chieftains
album came out on that label a few years before Moloney
worked full time for them. I think the label is still located in the
Temple Bar area of the city. At least that's what I remember from 2004.

There's a bittersweet story of Frank Zappa's recording
session in February of '93 - about 9 months before his death -
with The Chieftains and Tom Jones when he had to excuse
himself from the session because of his battle with prostate cancer.

Sixty years of The Chieftains!
What a glorious ride! (He died yesterday, actually).
