Love that film, especially toward the end where Redford's character makes fun of the usual blather that comprises the speeches of most politicians.

Redford was also great, along with Dustin Hoffman, in All The President's Men. An early role in The Twilight Zone in which Redford plays a guy who is the human embodiment of Death is also notable, especially since Death doesn't act as one might expect.

Claudia Cardinale, a leading lady of Italian cinema in the 1960s, whose voluptuous beauty was celebrated by the film directors Luchino Visconti, Sergio Leone and Federico Fellini as she drew acclaim as Italy’s “dream girl,” has died on Tuesday in Nemours, France. She was 87.

The obituaries predictably understate the role of Tunisia in her life but she was born there (to Italian parents) and thought of herself as Tunisian, something you can hear in her beautiful French. She learned Italian only much later in life, so she could become an Italian film star!

Thanks for posting that. I've heard stories for years about how the song was peformed on the Welk show but hadn't seen the video before. I bet old Lawrence fired, or at least chewed out, the person responsible for that.

In old Lawrence's defense, here's a song his band did in the late 1920s. Maybe the younger Welk wasn't such a square back then:
