Thanks. The birthdays aren't for a couple of weeks. I now share a birthday with them too, as mine is three days before their's.

During their second birthday, my little girl did something with a birthday cake I've never seen a kid do. The icing on the cake was pink, and way too sweet, even for me. She took her wedge of cake, put all of the icing in her hands, and rubbed it on her hands and legs. She applied it as if it were sunscreen.

I like that .gif by the way. I never saw mine compete for a soother though!

Your daughter must have been a sight with that pink frosting all smeared - so cute! What is it about that age? The terrible twos, lol. I went through a frustrating period with my daughter when she was toddler and she literally would not eat anything. I thought she would starve. All she did was SMEAR her food - across her high chair tray, all over her face and body. It was nonstop cleanup and face and hand wipes with her lol. Her brother was totally different - very compliant and sat there limply with his mouth open waiting for the food to be shoveled in. I'm still waiting for his terrible twos to happen.

Yeah, I guess you can say we're triplets. My boy is almost literally a mini-me.

I had a similar thing with my boy. He's on the autism spectrum, though he's highly functional. He is big into texture. I'd give him a homemade cookie. He would take a bite or two. The rest of the cookie would be crumbled. He squished it in his hands. Come to think of it, he still does that...with brownies!

A mini-you with the exception that he's not into hockey, right? But there's still time for you to influence him! Your son must be a very special little guy. My daughter worked in pediatric autism research years ago and loved working with the kids and their families. With his appreciation of textures maybe your son with grow to be an artist. And hey, why wouldn't he want to squish brownies - especially if they're of the ultramoist, fudgy variety (obviously the best kind).

Right, he's not into hockey. It's still early. I didn't play organized hockey until I hit my teens. Yeah, he's a pretty good kid. I can't really complain.

My brownies tend to be fudgy. I don't put any icing on them. He squishes a lot of food - my pancakes, my cookies, cake. He's big into textures. I have to cut tags off of clothing. My Mom made him a firefighter helmet/toque. The wool she used was soft. Something about the feel annoyed him. He refused to wear it.

I'm with your son on that: tags on clothing are extremely annoying! I often cut them off. I very rarely wear hats, either! I'm sure you're aware that sensory sensitivities, and even pursuing certain textural sensations, are very common for people on the autism spectrum.

The only thing worse than a tag on the back of your neck is when mother doesn't cut off all the tag and the rest cuts into your flesh.

Tags on kids' clothes are outrageous. Old Navy seems to fit my kids well these days. I have, on average, five tags to cut per item! Use the damn printed tags on the fabric Old Navy.

My mom used to be bad when it came to cutting my tags. I used to rip them off afterwards, resulting holes be damned.
