That doesn't really apply to the creative sides of the industry, which I'm aiming for. Standard garb is jeans and t shirts on that side of the fence.

Well, maybe it's different in California, but I've never heard of a job that preferred face fuzz of any kind.

It is different in California, and there are differences between different types of businesses.

I hope so. I'd love nothing more than to grow a ridiculous Viking beard, but I live in the metropolitan part of the South, where we don't like things that are different, but we aren't redneck enough to like trashy facial hair.

Really depends on what you're doing, too. If I was doing business to business marketing or something like that I'd probably have to shave. The job I'm looking at right now is as an assistant for campaign development so it's a lot looser.
