I am so giddy right now that I probably look insane.

I randomly stumbled across the email address for the Rudy Van Gelder studios in Englewood Cliffs, NJ. I used to live right down the f*cking road from it and had no idea it was so close. You name a jazz record that I LOVE, that changed the way I appreciate music, and odds are it was recorded in that f*cking studio. I wrote the email thinking "what the hell? Might as well try to see if they do visitations" not thinking that I'd get a response.

I did.

Maureen Sickler, Rudy Van Gelders long time personal assistant just emailed me back herself and said that they occasionally will have visitation periods but that we're gunna have to wait and see how the world looks and to email her back in a month and they'll have me come see the place.

HOT DAMN I AM EXCITED.

MY F*CKING AVATAR PICTURE WAS TAKEN IN THAT STUDIO. SO COOL.

Yo, I'm seriously kind of disappointed in this. Not that you'd find it boring, but that you felt the need to say it to me. Sheesh.

Back in the early 90's, A friend invited me to spend a couple of days hanging out in CRC (Chicago Recording Company) in Chicago. We pretty much had free run of the place while we were there.
Got to go into one of the spaces where Cheap Trick were recording an album and got to check out all their equipment. Got to play a tune on one of John Lennon's pianos which they had there. Sat in on a recording session by another friend who was working there as an assistant recording engineer. Sat in (briefly) on a mixdown of a commercial jingle (the only uninteresting part of the visit) and got to roam freely inside the vault where they keep all of the master recordings.
And, to top it all off, we went out for a fun evening of barhopping with several of the studio staff at the end of the last day.
