The truth is, feminism was SUPPOSED to be about creating more opportunities for women, to give them more options in life so they didn't feel pressured into whatever role society bestowed upon them... Unfortunately, what ended up happening is that the work force became flooded because women were trying to fit society's new role for them... and hence created a surplus in the supply end of the workforce, therefore lowering wages so that a single-income household these days is rarely capable of providing the same standard of living that it once could. Nowadays, few women have the option of not joining the workforce, so our options in life haven't increased at all--those options have simply changed.

Womens lib didn't **** that up, massively increased income inequality in a capitalist society did.

There simply is no longer the kind of monetary stability available from a 1 income household, for the middle class housewife to still be a realistic proposition. That has nothing to do with women's rights and everything to do with statistics like this one: Richest 62 people as wealthy as half of world's population, says Oxfam | Business | The Guardian

Reading back through this, one thing that is particularly striking is the fact that male genital mutilation has been discussed in terms of how it looks and potential health benefits. That attitude is the issue as much as anything else.

It wouldn't be happening if females were not protected from birth against it. It would rightly be an outrage. Yet little boys are having their penis cut without their consent and it's not even against the law.

But they suffered no ill effects from their circumcision and that's all that matters in such a discussion!!!

Real feminism will never happen. Because the femnazis running the movement need a platform upon which to bitch about oh-so-pertinent matters... Such as whether Target should remove a collection of wedding tshirts that read "Trophy Wife"... (Rolls eyes)... Apparently if a guy adores his new wife and considers her a trophy, that's offensive to a whole group of ugly fat chicks who will never be seen that way... And apparently, it's also their right to never be offended. Anyone who thinks "never being offended" is a RIGHT, has never worked customer service, and therefore that silver spoon "activist" really doesn't have much to bitch about as far as I'm concerned.

Bun there's no use arguing about the so-called merits of modern feminism, especially with men. I find it ironic how the biggest proponents of modern feminism (who are under 50 and over 25--ya know, working age), are always men. Feminism has outlived it's use. Smart women understand this. But many men are so well-trained by society that they feel a need to prop up a useless--and in some ways detrimental-- movement in order to validate that they themselves are not cheuvenists. I say more power to the MRA's... Hopefully their movement doesn't turn into the next "feminist movement"... Unfortunately, it probably will.

Hmm, if female genital mutilation was as ingrained into our culture as the male form, I think people would have similar attitudes.

Many people campaign against FGM around the globe, and condemn it. We are fortunate enough to live in societies that actually respect the rights of women.
