Probs. I need to know way more about NOLA sludge so feel free to get into the nitty gritty. It's kind of hard to get into tbh since I use RYM to check out genres and when you look at sludge in RYM it gives you a ****load of post metal (post-sludge) as if that's at all what you're looking for when you want a band that sounds like Eyehategod.

We’ll both be learning as we go then. That’s what it’s all about.

I knew that Florida had an incredible metal history but I learned a ****load more about it when we went through it.

Damn it there was a super cool documentary about New Orleans sludge on the internet a few years ago that seems to have disappeared and I don't know why. I think it was by a site called Noisey and they have links about the documentary but you can't actually watch it for whatever the **** reason. The singer for Eyehategod seemed to be a particularly cool and weird guy and Pepper Keenan, the singer for Corrosion of Conformity, has his own ****ing awesome dive bar and is one of the few men I'd honestly say I'd check my sexuality at the door for to so what I was up for.

I loved the Sleeping Beauty novels but I haven’t read the 4th one from 2015.

Rice is classic New Orleans.

Anne Rice is self-indulgent pap. Good as far as self-indulgent pap goes but once you've figured out all of her **** is the same it loses a lot of its mystique. Why on earth does every single one of her characters like the same books, music, movies, etc? Oh, because Anne Rice likes those things. Real interesting characters.

Have you read the Sleeping Beauty series?

Besides that I’ve only read Interview with a Vampire.

Haven't read Sleeping Beauty but I have read most of the Vampire series and a few other books. I used to love her writing. I still find it interesting that the descriptions of what it's like to be a vampire (their senses, their emotions) seem to be a dead ringer for bi-polar disorder.

Truman Capote is from New Orleans. I’ve read Breakfast at Tiffany’s and In Cold Blood but I know so little about him plus I don’t have any special insights into those books so I decided to see what I could find on YouTube and right on top there’s this weird af interview with Johnny Carson

Here's his NYTimes obit:

https://archive.nytimes.com/www.nyti...?module=inline

Quote:
In ''Music for Chameleons,'' a collection of short nonfiction pieces published in 1980, Mr. Capote, in a ''self-interview,'' asked himself whether, at that point in his life, God had helped him. His answer: ''Yes. More and more. But I'm not a saint yet. I'm an alcoholic. I'm a drug addict. I'm homosexual. I'm a genius. Of course, I could be all four of these dubious things and still be a saint.''
He died from physical deterioration from drug and alcohol abuse and aging.

His mother committed suicide via sleeping tablets in 54 and his father served time in Sing Sing for embezzlement.

His mom

Something about him reminds me of Ian Curtis in a frightening way.

Check out Thou if you haven't heard them yet. NOLA's probably my favorite city when I have the luxury to go traveling.

NOLA's probably my favorite city to hang out and party in when I have the luxury to travel. There's a ****load of culture there and no open container law. Sacred Grinds is a badass little indie coffee shop next to a cemetery (you can literally sit in the back of the shop and look through the cemetery gates) with an absolutely delicious house brew special called a Dirty Zombie.

There's also a bar, I can't remember the name of it, but the place is supposed to be haunted due to a fire that happened there in the 40s or something like that. Due to that, it's mostly a tourist attraction. The people that work there though are really nice and they do (or used to do) some $1 specials on cheap beers if you're running low.

Be sure you have a Hand Grenade somewhere in NOLA, it's the customary "Welcome to NOLA" drink down the strip over by Bourbon Street. Everywhere in the French Quarter is also really beautiful. I honestly would say that it's probably one of the most artistic cities I've seen in the South.
