Given the recent moans of Occulthawk about, well, everything, it set me to thinking (I do that once every ten or so years) what are the little things that make life bearable? Could be a sunny day, a rainstorm, birds singing, massive jugs on a woman, a great album from your favourite artist, favourite meal, whatever. Lay it on us. What keeps you away from Mister Rope and Mister Razorblade?

tl;dr: what, for you, makes life worth living?

Don't listen to Batty. This is a good thread idea, not a "stupid" one.

It would be unsurprising if this forum would rather bicker and wrings hands than talk about something life affirming.

Anyway, here goes, off the top of my head:

- Every time I haven't listened to Kate Bush in a long while, her voice strikes me as some kind of wonderful magic spell.
- I love how gorgous trees look in autumn.
- When you're really thirsty and drink some cold water. Feels so good that I sometimes wait a little bit so that I'm a bit thirstier when I drink it
- When I've watched a really good movie and feel all introspective and calm when the credits roll. The best movies change my mindset for the rest of the evening and make me feel more inspired and lucid.
- Coffee is mostly just an everyday thing, but sometimes a warm cup of coffee really, really hits the spot.
- When a beautiful hairdresser presses your head against her bust to reach the far side of your head with her scissors Sadly, it's a dude that cuts my head these days, but oh well. Don't do a good thing so often it wears thin.
- Family dinners with just my closest family - especially if lots of wine is involved.
- I'm not much of an animal person, but they still manage to melt my frosty heart at times. If I was suffering with clinical depression, I think a prescription for a pet chimpanzee would cure me.
- Being around lively, joyful people (so definitely not here).
- Good news about things I expected to go to ****.
- Reading funny comic strips. Probably my favorite kind of comic.
- A melody that is so achingly beautiful that I feel a great stirring of emotions.
- The way the air feels different very, very early in the morning.
- The sound of heavy rain outside. I leave my window open if its raining a lot. Just something about it that soothes me.

^Now I wanna make a list:

-Playing video games for several hours at a time without moving from your spot.
-Smoking a joint after not having weed for a few days. It's always nice to get used to being high all the time again. It's like getting high for the first time.
-Listening to music way too loud for my ears. Sometimes it sounds really good. Also adding that listening to music while you're high is amazing.
-Cleaning. I absolutely love to clean. I'll sometimes spend a day just cleaning the house because the payoff is always worth it. Same goes for yard work.
-Exercising. I walk to and from work every day, and I would probably hate it if I couldn't do it every day. I'm not able to drive, so walking is the best alternative. And fortunately it has it's health benefits. I haven't been over 160 pounds in a few years now.
-Being single is also one of lifes many great benefits. I was in a bad relationship for a while and had others before that also didn't end well. Happy to be single and working on myself and make myself happy before I try to do the same for someone else.
-Rainy days are great. And luckily I live in the city that is known for them. Add that with wearing a hoodie and sweatpants and slippers all day and you have my perfect day.
-Along with that, i'll also just spend the whole day in bed watching TV if I really want to. I have youtube and twitch on my tv so it's not like it'd ever get boring.
-Wearing nice clothes. I like looking nice. A proper polo shirt or nice t shirt goes a long way with some nice jeans or slacks. I like to wear my hair nice as well. Along with having a pretty tame beard, I tend to want to look nice all the time. Plus, it just feels good to wear nice looking clothes sometimes.

Bonfires. I forgot bonfires. Since we are allowed to make bonfires on our property, it's something I've just gotten used to being able to have. And it's always nice.

Come to my parents place, we've had a bonfire pit in our yard since I was a baby. Always burning stuff. We once burned a mattress.

One thing that is really nice, I agree, is the smell of a fire. Not a thick, heavy house or (presumably) wild or brush fire, but the likes of rubbish burning, thick but not choking, that real kind of winter smell you get, similar to a coal fire when it's burning. Add a nice chill (but not cold) breeze into that and it's really enjoyable. Also the sound of trains in the distance, as Mister Simon once remarked, and it's true.
