Golden Bridge (Vietnam)

Quote:
The Golden Bridge (Vietnamese: Cầu Vàng) is a 150-metre-long (490 ft) pedestrian bridge in the Bà Nà Hills resort, near Da Nang, Vietnam.[1][2] It is designed to connect the cable car station with the gardens (avoiding a steep incline)[3] and to provide a scenic overlook and tourist attraction. The bridge loops nearly back around to itself, and has two giant stone hands designed to appear to support the structure.

Very cool! All-State needs to purchase ad space on those.

this is a pretty famous bridge in my country: γοργοπόταμος bridge. it was sabotaged in 1942 by guerillas in collaboration with english commandoes in order to cut/delay the nazis supply line to their forces in south greece and (maybe) north africa.. it was a heavily guarded bridge so it took a big fight to get close.
its one of the rare occasions the communist guerillas (and the vast majority of the guerillas were communist-politically left leaning) callaborated with some right-wing guerillas (mostly ex-army officers) in order to get what you see in this picture done.

after some time they began fight each other and the final outcome (after the nazis left) was a fully wadged civil war that lasted til 1949.

in the small picture: in retaliation the italians, who were responsible for guarding the bridge, shot 14 prisoners, 7 of them in the place were the sabotage took place.

^ That's an interesting story, ziggywas, and a reminder of the life-or-death bravery of people who resisted the Nazi occupation of Europe.

A fun bridge from Psy-Fi and a great photo from Mindfullness. I heard about the flood on this morning's news and was surprised to realise it was the same place that you posted about a couple of days ago.

Some bridges are rightly famous, but some are just lucky enough to turn up on album covers through no particular merit of their own:-
