Old North Bridge

Old North Bridge

A bridge with quite a bit of historical significance that I haven't walked across in years but it used to be a favorite spot to occasionally visit with friends back in the 70's and early 80's.
The one in the photo is a reproduction of the original which was taken down 18 years after the start of the American Revolutionary War.

Quote:
The original North Bridge was dismantled in 1793 by the town of Concord because its use as a bridge had become impractical; a new bridge was erected a few hundred yards away. The bridge was rebuilt multiple times in 1875, 1889, and 1909. The current replica was built in 1956 and was based on drawings of the bridge built in the 1760s. The bridge was restored in 2005

^ That's a nice bridge, Psy-Fi, or perhaps more notably, a beautiful location. When you are out walking, the midpoint of a bridge is a place to instinctively take a rest and have a look around, isn't it? Here are two bridges I've paused at the middle of on several occasions.
A Cornish village I used to visit on holidays, and one of London's bridges at an unusually low tide:-

^ Well, the full title of the song (Esa banda en dub) is Spanish for "This Band In Dub", so maybe you're hearing the original track after all

The Brooklyn and Golden Gate were the two biggies when I was a kid but this was the first one that truly blew my mind at the time.

Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge - still the longest suspension bridge in the US.

Chula, Lisnaholic and Psy-fi these are some nice bridges. i particularly like the 1st photograph in Lisna's post......

i cant believe i forgot (til now) the bridge of death.
before you cross it you have to answer some questions and its crossing is inevitable in the quest for the holy grail.......

Quick side note: Read somewhere that it takes a crew just about a full year to paint the entire GGB - and as soon as they are done they start all over again.

Really? Again?

I think that's standard for longer bridges cause I remember hearing the same thing about the big dumbass bridge going to Wellesley Island in upstate New York.

^ When I was about 11, we were taught the same thing about this bridge in Scotland: constantly being painted, but this one takes four years to finish before going back to the start again. Even a kid can see there's a lot of fiddly paintwork involved:-
