I'm not sure why, but this is the biggest misconception.
This is not some new phenomena.

The biggest example is a well known one - the story of Jesus. The Pharisees wanted Jesus crucified because he "offended" them by referring to himself as the "son of God".

I don't think that was the only reason. He also threatened authorities by calling out their "sin" and corruption. His following and influence represented a minor threat, or at least a nuisance to the power of the state and he was made an example of. Or at least that's my understanding of it.

Doesn't matter. Let's not get bogged down in the example like people always tend to do.

The point being that people have been at each other's throats for stuff that has "offended" somebody since the beginning of time. Big problems or small problems.

I mean you seem to be overly concerned with people being offended whereas the actual story is more concerned with challenging the people in power. Your story is bitching about people without power who have some nebulous control over what people think whereas the actual story in the Bible seems to be a very direct challenge to a status quo with money and power behind it.
