Daughtry - It's Not Over - Lyrics Meaning

It's Not Over is the first single released from American Idol alum Chris Daughtry's debut album. The song has sold over two million singles in the US and peaked at number four on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song is about the ups and downs of a relationship between a man and a woman. The man has made many mistakes, but is repentant and wants to start over because he cannot live without the woman.

The protagonist of the song feels the torment of the relationship gone wrong and cries out in desperation for the relationship to be restored. Wanting to reconcile it is a matter of life or death for the man as several of the lines from the song reference. The music video depicts a man being released from prison and a woman picking him up. The rest of the video depicts the man finding gainful employment and making up lost time with the daughter he just met. The final scene shows the man getting down on one knee and proposing followed by the couple embracing. The single was nominated for Best Rock Song and Best Rock Performance at the 50th Grammy awards. Fellow American Idol alum Ace Young was a co-writer on the track.
