The Captain and Tennille - Love will keep us Together - Lyrics Meaning

Love Will Keep Us Together was written by prolific singer and songwriter Neil Sedaka who in conjunction with fellow songwriter Howard Greenfield wrote a string of hit songs during the late nineteen fifties and early sixties, either recorded by Sedaka or by other artists of the period.

In the mid sixties, Sedaka's popularity began to fade as his music style became outmoded. In the seventies, in an attempt at a comeback, Sedaka and Greenfield penned the Love will keep us Together and recorded a version that enjoyed little commercial success.

The song enjoyed tremendous success however with the release of a cover version by the duo known as the Captain & Tennille. The song was released as their debut single, and reached the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 in June of 1975 staying there for four weeks. It also won the award, as the top US single for 1975 as well as a Grammy Award for Record of the Year.

The duo were man and wife "Captain" Daryl Dragon and Toni Tennille. Tennille's dynamic rendition of the song may well have been the key to its success. The song's lyrics describe a couple's love for each other and how it will always keep them together. It certainly worked for the Captain & Tennille who have remained together as a couple to this day.
