Wet Wet Wet - Love Is All Around - Lyrics Meaning

Love is All Around is a song that was written and composed by Reg Presley and initially performed by a group of which he was a member known as the Troggs who lived in a small town in the south of England,. Presley's inspiration for writing the song came when attending a village fair in the small town where he lived on an uncommonly warm and pleasant summer's day. He saw the people of the village shopping for fresh produce at the market stalls that had been set up while the children played happily and without restriction on the village green. He seemingly said to his companion. "I feel that love is all around me here."

When the Troggs first released the song as a single in the UK in October 1967, it reached number five in the UK charts, as well as going to number seven in the US Hot 100 in the spring of 1968.

After that the song was consigned to the annals of pop history until it was unearthed twenty five years later, by Glasgow group Wet Wet Wet, who recorded their version to promote the best selling film Four Weddings and a Funeral. The song, beautifully produced and performed, enjoyed considerable more success the second time around, topping the UK charts for a phenomenal fifteen consecutive weeks.

Reg Presley who had remained a lover of the country life reportedly spent his royalties on the study of crop circles.
