What's The Latest Film You Have Seen?

I could also see a Cowboy Bebop live-action movie being good, but that has more to do with the fact that the anime itself was already more Westernized by the soundtrack and dress sense. Also because of Earth's partial destruction, it gave the writers creative freedom to not have to include some kind of nationalistic undertones.

Akira, conversely, is all about Japanese undertones that just can't be understood by a Western audience the same way. The nuking of Tokyo at the beginning immediately sets the tone and the context for the rest of the film. While bits and pieces of the film are not exclusive to Japanese ideals, like the bōsōzoku, or idea of a police state, Katsuhiro Otomo wrote Akira from an exclusively Japanese perspective, and in a Westernized version of that, it will change too much to so that the only thing remaining is this hollowed version of what was once a deeply metaphoric and important piece of a nation's culture.

In terms of just making it into a movie, it wouldn't be easy but I think it's do-able, although the sheer destructiveness of Tetsuo in the film's climax would be hard to do properly, although the new film Chronicle apparently does take a lot of inspiration from Akira so that's something to look to for inspiration.

If they do a live action cowboy bebop or akira i really hope they don't pick a cheesy director like zack snyder.

In my dreams it would be Alfonso Cuarón (children of men)somebody who would be likely to make the subject more mature as oppose to childish. That would be my biggest concern, somebody who wouldn't take the source material seriously.

A good example of why making an adult, realistic adaption is smart is the dark knight.

Ghost In The Shell has all the trademarks of translating into live action but like Akira and many others of that ilk, the intricacies and subtle socio - political statements would be lost and they would almost certainly lose their uniqueness.

These anime's would lose their uniqueness no matter what, just because they're each based on a very individual art style.
Personally, even losing the subtle political stuff, i still think they would be very solid films, especially cowboy bebop.

I don't think you make a totally literal adaption of the story line. You take parts of it and make it work within the context of the real world.

Saw Chronicle last night. It's filmed home-video style, ala Cloverfield or Blair Witch. That part was fine, I didn't mind the cinematography, except when I couldn't figure out who was holding the camera, or which camera the point of view was supposed to be from (there were multiple people "filming" for various reasons). Also, it never really explains how the different videos get spliced together. In fact, you get the feeling the makers feel that's not relevant to the movie, however if you're making a home-movie style film, it is important, imo.

The story itself seemed to have quite a few holes, and was pretty predictable throughout. Not a half bad movie for 5 bucks I guess. Not really half good either.

Apparently the kid with the camera was using his psychic powers to manipulate the angles of the camera, basically becoming his own camera crew. As for how the other footage got spliced together... I think that's the last thing the writer thought people would question in a movie were a meteor bestows magic powers on three youths.

Did anybody else watch TrollHunter? It's also filmed home-video style. Very enjoyable premise in my opinion.
