This was very intense, well-acted, and involving. I was very impressed with Willem Dafoe and his Christ figure of a character. The cruelty of the American troops during that war was well highlighted but not in way that made the movie difficult to watch. Excellent film, now to see Apocalypse Now. 8.5/10

GREAT movie. This is actually my first John Woo film. I know that this was in a way opposite of the kind of films he makes but I was really impressed. The story was simple but well done and the camera work and action were top class. Highly recommend it.

Weird movie. There was a GREAT motorcycle chase towards the end of the film but the rest was filled BLAH. I enjoyed watching Eastwood do things like be a womanizer but it just got old after a while. I can't tell if it's supposed to be serious or not, I'm bad at that, but it was worth it for the chase scene and to see Eastwood act in a young role.

I enjoyed this. Definitely a movie you have to be in the mood to watch but it was moving and interesting and of curse very well acted and written by the two of them.

Ditto, I own it on DVD. I could watch it over and over. I feel the same way about Gone With The Wind.

I liked this better than the remake with Denzel. It wasn't as preachy and didn't dive into some of the "Why is this happening" aspect that the remake did. Good performance by Shaw and Matthau.

Classic sci-fi with some of the best alien effects for that time that I've seen. Very good.

Very good film with some great performances. I've never seen Rob Morrow in anything else. Is that his real accent? I've never heard anybody talk like that besides LT. Aldo Raine. Anyway, I enjoyed the film a lot.

C.H.U.D. (1984)

First off I'm going to say that this isn't a great movie. The costumes are pretty noticeably bad, the acting isn't really great, and the story is kind of dumb. All that said though, I will say that this is one of my favourite horror movies of the 1980's because of the underlying message behind it, chiefly the complete neglect of the homeless and urban decay in the 1980's in part to "Silent Majority" winning back control of the pop cultural steering wheel. It really is a film that could have only been made during the Reagan years, and coincidentally, it shares a somewhat similar story with another 1984 movie, The Toxic Avenger, at least in the sense that it involves the illegal dumping of toxic waste by morally bankrupt bureaucrats hiding within the system and behind normalcy.

C.H.U.D. (1984) has earned my respect by actually trying to be about something. Candyman (1992) is another, it manages to tell a good story but also includes the plight of people living in ghettos and the racism and indifference that still exists and is still the status quo. It's kind of sad how whenever a ghetto is used as the setting in a horror movie now it's less about making people aware of the state we've allowed our cities to devolve into and more about showing a scene where the killer takes a bong hit (I'm looking at you Leprechaun: In the Hood (2000).)

Hesher - 4/5

Ever since I watched it a couple weeks ago, I just haven't been able to get this film out of my mind. At the start it tries a little too hard to be like Fight Club, but then becomes its own movie, full of drama and action. I actually cried at the heartwarming ending. Rock on.

The Usual Suspects - 3/5

I managed to make it through 18 years of my life and see the movie without having the twist spoiled for me, so naturally I enjoyed this film a lot. A very intricate plot, but lacks in characters I can sympathize with/relate to, which leads to me not caring much about what happens to the characters.
