What's The Latest Film You Have Seen?

Journeys: Neal Young

Friend of mine and I decided to go see this... and we were the only ones apparently. We got a 9:30 show and we were the only people in the audience. I was fine with that, we smoked a pretty big joint before hand and I had a flask of whiskey with me, so we could sit where ever we want, talk to each other, and drink without discretion. As far as the film goes... it's really just more of a live concert with some documentary style footage of Neil Young driving to Massey Hall in Toronto from Omemee in Norther Ontario and some anecdotes about the town and his life as a kid. Nothing to rush out and see, there were some really odd camera angles that went on for far too long, like this one of his mouth (the camera was on his mic stand) and at one point a bit of spit got on the lens and they just kept it on the same shot. Not the film you need to rush out and see, even if you are a fan of Neil Young.

To make it up to me my friend said we'd go see ParaNorman tomorrow, the new claymation video by the same study who did Coraline so I'm pretty excited for that.

Blindness - I enjoyed this film. It's considered a horror but not in an overdone way. It's believable what the world would turn to be with an epidemic like that. Terrifying in a perplexing sense. Supernatural yet somehow realistic according to the courses of action.

ParaNorman (2012)

For the love of all that is still good and holy on this putrid planet of ours go see this movie. I'm not even kidding when I say this is quite possibly the best movie of the year, beating out the big contenders that have already earned quite a stir. Basically it's one of those rare movies we barely ever get anymore, a movie that truly manages to be incredibly well written even when compared to serious adult movies. This is a very smart little movie with A LOT to say about the various topics like purity, consumerism, conformity, alienation, and introversion, and it's all a kids movie. When you look at the PG rating, you see it's far more for themes and ideas than anything grotesque or scary. There are definitely some really subtle nods to humoring the adults, but really, the kids get some of the slapstick comedy, but this is a movie for you.

Seriously, I do not want to see this movie bomb at the box office like Scott Pilgrim did two years ago against The Expendables. This is a smart movie that is totally firing on all cylinders and deserves your attention. Don't let this one slip by.

To be blind anyway would be scary. I had a cousin who passed who was blind. I would hate to be deaf, due to my music. But to be blind and not see my children and grandchildren, that would be tragic.

No, I can't. And thank you. She was blinded by an arrogant SOB eye surgeon. Then he ruined her kidneys. To cover up his mistakes.
I know it would be horrible. I don't even know how I'd handle it.

Saw this yesterday:

Juan of the Dead. 8/10 Would watch again... well played!

Like Shaun of the Dead, but in Cuba. But handled a bit differently. Like a parody of a parody. They've done their zombie homework, paid homage to the originators and the parody makers before them, and did an excellent job with what I'm sure was a low budget (The film was first shown at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival).

I really liked what they did with the very obvious political jabs. The news and government declare that the zombies are nothing but American favoring dissidents, despite their cannibalism.

Now I'm really inspired to make a "Don of the Dead" about how the mafia would respond to the zombie outbreak. And maybe Chong of the Dead, etc. But I'm definitely callin dibs on "Don of the Dead" TM. :P

Also saw Ted... 6/10. Fun for a while, glad I watched it, don't need to see it again. Reminds me of the tv show Wilfred on FX with Elijah Wood. Still good fun...

Also saw Run Fatboy Run with Simon Pegg. Watch this one with your lady. It was alright standalone, but could used more Dylan Moran. 6.5/10

Rewatch

saw this for a while while I was having supper in an Indian Muslim restaurant, being the nice darlings they were, they fast-forwarded to the climactic battle scene, which is the best part of the movie, when Hulk said "Hulk Smash" I still shed tears of joy

otherwise, an abysmal failure - 3/10
