i suppose it's some sort of ambition, as i've been meaning to watch this for the last 20 odd years but somehow didn't

a bit overrated, perhaps, the story ain't much to shout about, the acting's sub-par

it is, however, quite atmospheric and ambient, and borrows a bit from the Val Lewton Zombie movies

some of the scenes really look good, especially the Conquistadores waking from the dead, and the zombie-shark scene manages to evoke some sense of underwater cinematographical beauty in the same way as Argento's opening in "Inferno"

lotsa dead air, though, and the editing is a bit choppy here and there

still satisfying, i'd take this over "The Walking Dead" any day of the week - 7/10

Just home from watching the norwegian movie about Thor Heyerdahl (famous norwegian anthropologist / explorer / adventurer) and his Kon-Tiki expedition where he set out to prove that Polynesian islands could have been settled by people from South America sailing on rafts following the pacific South Equatorial current. In the movie, Thor Heyerdahl and a small crew of some norwegians and a swede set out to prove that it was possible by doing the journey themselves by building a balsa raft and sailing it 5000 miles from Peru to Polynesia.

The movie was well done, often beautiful, exciting, sort of to the point and not as excessive in style like so many movies are. The actors did a good job and it's about a piece of Norwegian scientific history that we can feel proud of. The movie is controversial here for its character assasination of Herman Watzinger, a member of the crew who was brave and handsome in real life, but is portrayed in the movie as chubby and scared for the sake of dramaturgy. Nevertheless, I doubt non-norwegians would care about that.

I think it's the most expensive norwegian movie ever made, so bit of a budget film .. for Norway

yeah within 28 seconds of me typing that i had looked it up....sometimes i forget that i am in fact on the internet

it looks like it will get a limited release over here.....i would travel to the Bay Area to see this one in the theater so i'll be keeping my eyes on it

i already dug out my old copy of it and started re-reading it.....Thor Heyerdahl's story within Kon-Tiki is seriously one of the most exhilarating and inspiring stories i have ever read....and the movie just looks gorgeous!

I'm happy I could help, bob, and it's nice to see some enthusiasm for one of Norway's most famous scientists. I agree his story is quite inspiring!

The movie is of course a work of fiction which is based on historical events, but of course the crew also made a documentary of their trip which won an Oscar back in the day, the only Oscar won by a Norwegian movie production. If you haven't seen it, that might be worth checking out.
