Frontiers

So if you took the concepts of Hostel and Texas Chainsaw Massacre and combine them you have this movie. It was gory and fun but at the same time cheesy and bad, The acting was horrible and the antics of the main girl were just annoying and stupid. I'd say it's worth a watch if you like torture porn and I will say most of it "looked" good. Meh.

Big Fan

I watched the first third of this movie a year ago and didn't like it much even though I'm a huge Patton Oswalt fan. I decided to give it another try and while I wasn't floored it had a much better second half. It was a lot more depressing than I thought it was going to be and Patton gave a great performance. I'd check it out.

So, I watched Django Unchained last Wednesday, and in it they make a reference to the legend of Siegfried, which is a famous Norse/Germanic myth. Just by pure coincidence, they've been playing Wagner's Ring Cycle operas on the TV over the last few weeks, which is all about Norse/Germanic mythology. Not just that, but on Sunday, three days before I say Django, they played Siegfried, which is exactly what the reference in Django was about. Dude...

Les Miserable. I loved it. I believe the book is one of the best books ever written.

The only problem, which really wasn't a huge problem for me, was Anne Hathaway stole the show. Her role as Fantine and the delivery of "I dreamed a dream" was great. The problem was, having stole the show, Fantine dies and the high point of the movie has came and gone very early on.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the rest of the movie. Overall, a great movie very much worth seeing.

Really? Although the violence is extreme I would say it's a million miles away from Hostel (which truly is a piece of crap) in that you are much more immersed in the characters and the climax is a great piece of cinema. It had real emotional depth for me and was powerfully shot.

Certainly not one of the best Horror films I have seen but it is miles above the crap that Eli Roth serves up.

Based upon the alleged true story of Saddam Hussein's son's body double who was forced to play that role through manipulation, torture and terror and who eventually rebelled against the truly repellent nature of the original son.

Not knowing a lot of the back story is a hindrance but this was magnificently acted by Dominic Cooper who plays both the original son and the double, with both being completely different personas.

A small triumph for a relatively low budget film. Well worth a watch on many levels.

I was only comparing it to Hostel in the way the film handled torture and main points in the plot. The thieves ended up there looking for a place to stay and ended up getting more than they bargained for. I agree. It was way better than Hostel

Not a movie I'd watch (I'm so squeamish I don't like medical "true stories"!) but just wondered, what is the significance of the parenthesised "S" after the title? Seems like it means something. Or does it?

Steven Seagalls usual female love interest was replaced by Ja Rule for this film. Results are a mixed bag, at times the bromance is very compelling.

Dial M For Murder....in 3D!!

So supposedly, this is one of the first films ever that was filmed in "Natural Vision" 3D. However, buy the time of its release, there wasn't a big market for 3D films, so it was released almost exclusively in 2D. Last night the Alamo Drafthouse was showing it in 3D...and it was so freakin amazing. It wasn't the viewing experience you usually get now, with **** popping out toward the camera so it looks like it's coming off the screen. But the depth it added to this film was outstanding. You notice by the way set pieces are placed and how the actors are positioned in certain scenes, how Hitchcock really intended for this to be a 3D film. Plus, even in 2D, it's just a terrific film anyway! The truth is, I'm not a huge fan of 3D in general, but this was one of the best 3D movies I've had the pleasure of seeing.

I never saw it in 3D but that's a hell of movie either way! I love how streamlined it is.
